Metal Gear Solid Games

I would recommend NOT playing MGS2, it's not that great. If you really want something relevant to the series as well as a lot of back history then play MGS1, then Snake Eater. MGS2 is just an abberation in the series to me, and it looks like Guns of the Patriots will hardly touch on the events seen in it except for the character Raiden and Liquid Ocelot.

funny as its the highest rated of them all by reviews, and your saying its not great, i no a lot of people think mgs1 and 3 are better, which may be true but its still a fantastic game.

Well my experience first started when I went to my cousin's house at the age of about 9 and played a demo disc of it. I was amazed. I bought the full game as soon as I saw it in the shops and man, it is just the best game on the PS1.

Number 2 was just as good - I can't really put my finger on which one of them is better. I'm afraid number 3 is last. It didn't really pick up until half way through the game - but man, it was REALLY good when it did pick up.

For people that are confused about the games. I'll put them in chronoligical order for clarity.

MGS3 - PS2
MGS3:Subsistence - PS2/Xbox (Identical to MGS3 but with a alternative third person view and extra content)
MGS - PS1
MGS Twin Snakes - Gamecube (Identical to MGS but with the added features of MGS2 for example first person view)
MGS2 - PS2
MGS2: Substance - PS2/Xbox (Identical to MGS2 but with added content, virtual missions for example.

How is that chronological? You have listed MGS3 before MGS.

Got a price of £15 for all 3 games :D

1 - Metal Gear Soild
2 - Metal Gear Soild 2 Sons of Liberty
3 - Metal Gear Soild 3 Snake Eater

Carnt wait !

You're in for a treat :D

I don't recommend you play them in chrono order by the way, I was just listing it as such so people can get the storyline but the games sort of run through each other quite nicely with developing features etc. Just play them the order they were released.

MGS1 on the psone is the only is the only one that does it for me. I found 2 to be way too similar, pretty much just MSG1 with better graphics, very disappointing as I was expecting so much more.

Only really played the very beginning of 3 and never had much time to sit down and play it. Given the chance i'd still go back and play 1 though! There's just something about it, the way the atmosphere was built up and well thought about, probably helped being a bit younger then too.

Would you recommend 3 as I enjoyed 1 so much?

Ditto - the rest relied too heavily on long cut scenes, which i found boring.

1 was fantastic, one of my favorite games ever.

Agreed to an extent. When will they remake MGS1 with better graphics???

Was gonna say, MGS: Twin snakes, is essentially an overhaul of MGS using the MGS2 engine. Its fantastic.

I love the whole MGS series, and cant wait for the next one.

I cant say any of the series was bad, although I would say MGS 3 was my fave, followed by the MGS1 remake for the Gamecube, and then MGS2.

So MGS 2 i guess it my worst one, But when i say that. It is by no means a bad game, It was fantastic like the others. :p

just go back from town and got them all :D

£23 in total, could have got them cheaper i guess of ebay but carnt be arssed to wait :p

I really can't see why people like 2 over 1. The first Metal Gear Solid is one of the darkest games in the series. For example, the scene where Snake reaches the surface at the beginning of the game and sees the Hind D take off. The way the music composes, the angles of the flight, and the graphical effects (blurring and such) really gave the game a serious, gritty and moody tone. The bad guys are also far more atmospheric and believable.

Now you guys think the cartoony orange rig with what is considered one of the poorest character changes (Raiden) in gaming history, and over the top bad guys such as fat bombermen, vampires and such constitutes as a better game? No way. Music, storyline, topics and characters covered in the second game pales considerably when compared to the original game.

Going off on a tangent here, Bungie obviously thought the same as everyone else, and followed the same formula that Kojima did: make a rubbish sequel with far less serious overtones and a ridiculous character change. Halo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2 has a lot of remarkable similairities really.

I love MGS1 i rememebr reading about it being released in Japan and i ordered a copy and got it shipped over. Obviously it was in japanese but i played regardless and still thought it was awesome. I got stuck i remember when someone tells me i needed C4 to blow a hole in a wall but because it was in japanese i diddnt have a clue. Had to wait over a year for it to come out in america before i could finally complete it :(
