Metal Gear Solid Games

I really can't see why people like 2 over 1. The first Metal Gear Solid is one of the darkest games in the series. For example, the scene where Snake reaches the surface at the beginning of the game and sees the Hind D take off. The way the music composes, the angles of the flight, and the graphical effects (blurring and such) really gave the game a serious, gritty and moody tone. The bad guys are also far more atmospheric and believable.

Now you guys think the cartoony orange rig with what is considered one of the poorest character changes (Raiden) in gaming history, and over the top bad guys such as fat bombermen, vampires and such constitutes as a better game? No way. Music, storyline, topics and characters covered in the second game pales considerably when compared to the original game.

Going off on a tangent here, Bungie obviously thought the same as everyone else, and followed the same formula that Kojima did: make a rubbish sequel with far less serious overtones and a ridiculous character change. Halo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2 has a lot of remarkable similairities really.
It's the cinematics in MGS2 that create the awe factor for me.

As for unbelievable characters in MGS2, what about MGS1? Have you forgot about the ninja cyborg that can cloak. Or perhaps more importantly a huge robotic machine that can launch nuclear missiles?

I hardly think either of the games were designed for realism, and therfore shouldn't be brought up as an argument for or against either game.

I would say though that the storyline in MGS1 is so far unmatched by anything I have seen on a console.

I find mechs and cyborgs more believable than vampires t b h.

You find them more believable?? They aren't real. << Notice that full stop there.

That's like saying I believe in ghosts more than I do in aliens, therefore Ghostbusters is a better movie.

The fact that none of them have proved existence should eliminate the whole 'whats more believable' argument as a point in the argument of what's the better game.

I get where he's coming from tho, with that statement.

Vampires are purely fictional.

Mechs and Cyborgs are science fiction.

for 1 thing, Mechs do exist. :p Although not to the same standard as what you see in MGS i'll admit.

But i agree with z0mbi3, KNiVES.

I know its not the same, But Resident Evil 4, was going to have Ghosts and a lot of paranormal activity in the beginning, But it was scrapped. I for one am glad.

What i like about Res Evil, is it's closer to a realistic situation, Granted. It's very unlikely we'll be seeing Zombies. But its a lot more likely than seeing ghosts and ghouls running around. :p

Cyborgs and mechs = more believable than vampires .

By definition we already have cyborgs and mechs, and even the beginnings of optic camouflage. Don't have any water walking vampires yet though.

Maybe a moot point but it does make MGS1 more believable and less fantastical when combined with the story imho.

Cyborgs and mechs 4tw, tbh.

I've played MGS1, 2 and 3, and out of them all I found ......... MGS3 to be the best. "Why?" you ask. The 'Cold War infiltration, get Sokalov out' story is awesome, the way the US is 'betrayed' by The Boss. The final cutscene had me in tears, and when you had to pull the trigger on the Boss, with all those flowers and petals, wow, that was a mindblowing scene. The way The Boss died for her country, yet only a few people knew, the anger of Snake at the end, when he storms out.

MGS3>MGS1>MGS2 imho, but they were all good, and much better than 'evil arch nemesis' *whispers it* Splinter Cell

I never got to complete MGS3 before my PS2 packed in.

I just finished beating the tank (penultimate boss I think) and was on my way down to fight the final boss.

Anyone care to fill me in on what happens after that? :p

If you can get it to work at all I'll be very impressed. I've tried it on three combinations of PC's over the years and while the game loads it would crash shortly afterwards even with the patches.

Worse port ever.

I've been meaning to replay MGS 1 again recently, played 2, finished it & enjoyed it, 3 i never got into quite so much, but hot damn, MGS 1 was the best game of its era, such innovation, amazing storyline, must hav eplayed through it 10-15 times and still get caught up in the story, it just doesn't get boring :)

Love it! :D

:o Sorry, must have missed that. Silly me.

That is strange, though, what OS are you using, and what actually happens?

Obscure error messages 5 mins into play. I haven't had any luck on it and as I said and thats been accross 3 different pcs (over the years).

I can't be bothered with it any more tbh. Maybe down the line.

You can see a lot of the issues people had over on the konami forums although to be fair as of late I am seeing a few more success stories.
