Metro: Exodus [E3 2017]

And you still see it as the old version once you start?

Yea when i go to options it say version 1017.

Iv just had a look in my library and it seems to be hidden as a seprate game for some reason so now im downloading the new one. 73.4gb

i had my library set as recent so metro was at the top so just assumed it was that.

I know, I worked it out above as it takes me 10mins at full speed for 75GB and it was not quite full speed on Steam.

yea yours will be superfast, i cannot get that speed where i live virgin is the fastest at 500mb. Mines down now so hopefully its the right one

Try a looped timedemo 1 of Quake 2 RTX with highest settings and global illumination on high, demo demo1.dm2. I bet your machine crashes

Quake 2 RTX is a much better GPU stress test than Timespy, Heaven or any other benchmark. Ideal for GPU only stress testing
I highly expect someones overclock could be perfectly stable in Timespy for hours but run a Quake 2 RTX loop with high global illumination in high res and it'll fall over after 15 minutes.

From @Rroff
Stick this in a file called something like loop.cfg in the baseq2 folder then \exec loop in the console:

timedemo 1
alias l1 "demo demo1 ; set nextserver l2"
alias l2 "demo demo1 ; set nextserver l1"
l1

It will stop briefly between demos to reload the file though - so ideally you'd want to record a longer demo and/or not set timedemo.

I pushed my ram voltage a little this evening and no more crashes. So fingers crossed that's solved it.

I also turned off PBO. It only adds 5% anyway.

I must be the only one though that thinks neither does it look 'amazing' nor does it run 'fantastic'.

Don't get me wrong it looks good, but the difference to me isn't that remarkable form what it was before to what it looks like now.

Also performance isn't great. It's completely playable but definitely judders a little here and there.

I do of course have the settings maxed out at 1440p.

The best RT game I have played remains Watch Dogs Legion.

What FPS are you getting? 'Judders' certainly dont happen for me. When things have juddreed in the past its because of hardware throttling to reduce heat to stop them overheating

Good stuff. PBO should be on by default at least on Ryzen 5 series, not sure about 3

Uninstalled. There is only so much I can take from these bugs:

1: Resolution not remembering on next load. I would be fine by simply switching res each time but the fact that it takes a long time to switch res, then it goes through the whole 0% to 100% thing where it does what exactly?

2: Not being able to skip any cut-scenes in the game itself. From now on I will instantly refund any new game that does not allow skipping of cut-scenes. I will not accept this type of restriction. I already sat through all of this when playing the first edition, I do not want to sit through it all again and you would think that given this is free, that anyone playing it will have already done the main story so will want to skip all cutscenes...

I also got to climbing the clock tower near the start and could not help but notice the poor quality wall textures on the brickwork. For everything set to maximum inc Extreme quality, it sure feels dated in various areas.

I get some stutters myself too, it's not bad though. There are console ports that have been much worse.

How have they still not fixed the mouse sens/smoothing in this game? Feels bloody awful!
Are you using in-game Vsync? It's bugged and causes terrible mouse sensitivity and sluggishness like you are playing on a controller.

Nvidia control panel Vsync works great.

Some of the textures are poor unfortunately. I haven't encountered the resolution bug unless I just haven't noticed.

Not encountered the resolution bug here. You tried disabling fullscreen optimisation? No idea if that fixes it or not but I always turn this off.

I hear you on the textures though! Some areas do look rather dated but then again it did come out in 2017 and I think this version is mainly just to add ray tracing.

I have never turned off full screen optimisations as never really had issue anywhere else but will try that shortly to see if that is what causes the resolution thing. It's not immediately obvious the resolution aspect ratio is weird when you next load the game unless you have something like STEAM fps overlay in the corner because the font will look stretched. The game UX itself isn't a standard font/UX so it's not obvious right away.

Personally I find it causes a weird stutter and fps drops with some games I play particularly bf 1 (more noticeable on my freesync 144hz monitor) so it always gets disabled now (hardware scheduling is also off if that makes any difference)

I usually had RTSS on but couldn't say it looked any different either tbh.

Disabling fullscreen opt made no difference, the res still looks stretched on next load and needs changing from the set res to something else, then back to your set res. Also in the screwed up mode it seems VSYNC iss off whack too as I was seeing 96fps which I know is impossible as my screen is 60Hz lol.

Uninstalled again.

I get the screen resolution bug too where it doesnt save. I notice because I use the Steam FPS overlay and it looks all fat and scretched out. I go into options and it says 3440 x 1440 but its lieing. I drop down a res then back to 3440 x 1440 and its corrected.
I'll leave mine installed for now but im not playing it until I can skip past all the narrative crap, its infuriating that it cannot be skipped. Oh well, at least I bought Metro Exodus when it was on offer for a tenner
