Michael Schumacher 'Hurt In Skiing Accident'

Difference between this and Natasha Richardson is that she refused medical treatment and felt fine. What actually happens in these sorts of cases is that even if you do feel fine, you've bounced your brain off the inside of your skull, and swelling and bruising occurs. A few hours later, that swelling can kill you.

It sounds like Schumacher had a much harder initial impact, but that he's received prompt medical attention, so in some ways his situation is better, and in some ways worse.

That was weird. One minute the BBC story linked to the Sports section and seemed to be downplaying the accident, then refreshed to a different version in the News section describing his condition as "critical".

What about the woman that died that was related to F1? 33 years old that lost her eye… Then died a year later… What was that about?

That's pretty normal.... New information means changing news. It's why it's called 'news'.

So if you were to slip and hit your head on a curb on the way to the shops, you would avoid going to the shops in the future?

Going to the shops is a necessity, flying down a mountain covered in ice at high speed and the numerous dangers involved isn't.

A dangerous sport and you take the risks but I hope he pulls through.

He better not get in a motor vehicle ever again either, those things are lethal.

You have a 2.09% chance of dying in a car wreck this year...

Just for balance, falling over only leaves you with a 0.69% chance of a mild case of death :D

Like some others, I have never been a massive Schumacher lover (not that I hated the guy), but I do acknowledge that he was/is an exceptionally talented man in the field of motorsport.

He is also someone you sort of expect to live for a long time. Would be rather sad if he didn't make it.

Thanks to Twitter and some fools in charge of regular news media they've decided that there is some sort of race to be the first to put information out, they don't seem to wait and get confirmation anymore.

Slopes are covered In flattened snow usually, it was an accident. Doesn't make it any more dangerous than stuff we do on a daily basis.

Life would be boring if we wrapped ourselves in cotton wool
