Michael Schumacher 'Hurt In Skiing Accident'

I don't want to derail this thread, but I don't agree at all with this.
Slopes are covered In flattened snow usually, it was an accident. Doesn't make it any more dangerous than stuff we do on a daily basis.
Skiing is inherently dangerous. Most things we do on a daily basis are not.

But I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Life would be boring if we wrapped ourselves in cotton wool

What about the woman that died that was related to F1? 33 years old that lost her eye… Then died a year later… What was that about?

Maria de villota? She was involved in an accident in testing where she drove into the back of a truck and crushed her skull. She had massive surgery and the X-rays show just how messed up her skull was. But she survived and came out of hospital before suddenly dying of brain injuries about a year later. Tragic :(

I almost cant believe that MSc could be at death's door.
The guy survives a long career in F1 and then suffers an innocuous accident when skiing.
I hope he gets better.

it's being reported in a few places that he had a brain haemorrhage after he had the accident.

I hope things are not as bad are being reported, for him and his family..

ouch.. didn't think it was this bad at first :O but then it wouldn't have made news.. how comes the other said it wasn't serious and that he was conscious etc?

It seems like it didn't look so serious at first and he was able to walk and was conscious etc, but then over time his brain has swollen causing him to go into a coma.

My thoughts & prays are with friends & family tonight, hoping he comes through this ok.

Brilliant on the track, irritating at times, smug, but no one deserves this.

Head injuries are funny things, you can be ok one minute, & in a split second in coma & critical, hitting your head with or without a helmet at speed is usually going to be serious, but some are lucky enough to walk away unharmed.

At least he has Professor Gerard Saillant, an eminent neurologist, so he in very good hands.

Jeez stuff like this puts me off going on a Skiing holiday.

The most dangerous aspect of skiing is driving to the mountain/airport.

The media greatly distorts skiings image. if they reported everyone who dies driving you would be watching the news for hours and every newspaper would be hundreds of pages long.

I ski 50-80 days a year for the last 15 years. I see far more people get serious falls in the parking lot than the slopes, and have witnessed more serious car crashes than ski crashes of severity.

You can walk down the high street, trip and crack your head on the pavement, but you don't leave your house wearing a helmet in case that happens!
