  is this really true, please tell me it is, my warranty ends in 2 days and I was thinking of selling it, so are you guys saying I've got an extra 2 years warranty on mine now then ?

Did you just buy another one though?

Thought you sold yours, got a PS3 then bought a 360 again?

I did, I brought a secound hand one out of a poplular video rental store but the manufacture date was allready nearly a year old on it, I'll definitly be getting a PS3 again also but closer to when Home is released.

After seeing a friend go through 3 360's with RROD, I decided not to spend my hard-earned on a inherently faulty product.

Anybody with half-a-brain could see the 360 was rushed out the door.

As long as I can be guaranteed of a quiet one, this warranty extension may just convince me to buy one now.

Are the other errors really enough to warrant buying an extended warranty? Do they make it as unplayable as the 3 Red Lights?

Yes it is worth it, look at xbox.com or on here the number of people who have disc read errors or scratches. Moore says the number is "infinitesimal".

This the same lieing **** that said failures where within industry standards?

Soes it make it unplayable? I couldnt play GOW at all until I changed my 360. I tried 3 copies of the game. None worked until I changed my 360, then the 2 I still had worked faultless.

Watch this forum for a month and see the numbers from today who complain there 360 is scratching discs or errors and tell me its not worth it. As I said before it also covers all your other 360 hardware too.

My nephew had a 360 scratch discs and then the hard drive die, none of those are covered. Look at the cost of a replacement drive, do you have cofidence in MS hardware to say that will last 3 years.

I dont.

end of the day if I get any of the other faults that are not covered under the new 3 year extension then I'll be wrapping my 360 up in a blanket ;) .

Hats off to MS for admitting the fault.

I'm a bit miffed I cant make the retailer pay for all the hassle he's put me through. here and here.

Still, its all fine and well offering the replacement but if I cant get in touch I'm still boned, been on hold for 45 mins now.

EDIT : 50 mins

EDIT : 1 hour 3 mins and through and I am FINALLY getting my console repaired (well, I'm getting sent a refurb I think)

Quick question here, what happens with all the people who got there 360 repaired by a third party ie not Microsoft. Wasnt there a place in Scotland that did 360 repairs for about £30 less than Microsoft? If so will these get a refund or not as the fault is still down to the 360 but as it hasnt gone through Microsoft to be repaired will you still get your money back?

I think everyone and thier dog is thinking that, I've been on a few forums now with people also thinking thier gonna bag a cheap 360 off the bay.

which will undoubtedly hike the bricked console prices :p

I should imagine MS wont refund that as they have no record of it.

Maybe if you went to loads and loads of effort to prove it but i doubt it would be worth the hassle in the long run.

*looks on ebay* na, i think i will just brand new.. now wheres my bus..

As a month old 360 owner who was put off for ages because of the hardware faults, I have to say this was the best thing MS could have done. Im now 100% satisfied with my purchase rather than the 95% I was this time yesterday! :p

Agree 100%. My 360 has scratched my Gow and Forza 2 discs and I've never moved it while it was turned on. There's been quite a few threads here lately about disc scratching and read errors, especially since Forza 2 was released. My 360 has been back for repair but they did nothing to the drive.

The samsung drive has no protection to stop the disc hitting the laser head, so when the enormous amount of heat the 360 produces makes it's way to your game disc after a few hours play, it can warp/bend a little and hit the laser head. That's the current theory anyway.

The warranty should include free replacement for all discs scratched by the 360.
