Microsoft Flight Sim X demo

Was really hoping FSX would model departures from normal flight but sadly its not to be, yet again real aerobatics are impossible unless they make some changes.

Just installed and had a quick go and not really sure what to think. They can't really be looking at a 3rd October US release date can they ?

The demo seems to time out after about 20mins. Why?

One thing that I'd been lead to be believe was that FSX would take advantage of dual core. No evidence of that. Anyone else read an interview with one of the developers where this was claimed ?

Already had 2 complete PC lock ups requiring a reset

The water textures don't look great for most of the time.

On what I've seen so far it doesn't really feel any better than FS2004 and I wonder what the extra year has been spent doing.

At the moment I feel quite disappointed especially as this was the only game I was really looking forward to. I wonder what Vista/DX10 will bring as I can't help thinking that was the original destination for FSX.

It feels a bit rough around the edges but then it is just a demo, so the final product should be better...

The performance is pretty bad on my machine though, which I thought would handle it slightly better but never mind! Anyone have any tweaks/tips yet? :D

Also, slightly related, anyone who loves FS9 should watch this video, excellent tribute imo!

downloaded from MS earlier at 400KB/s, its good... 12-20fps at max settings..... FS9 gets about 20-50fps at max settings (i have a lot of addons)

very good, cant wait for the real thing...

At 1280x1024 it struggles - there are some dodgy objects popping up here and there, particularly in the distance as mentioned by others.

Promising though it is, it's a shame the visuals lack any resemblence to some of the vid clips I've seen recently - even when maxed. I put that down to the fact it's a demo and all will be revealed at release. I hope the scenery really is that good on release :)

I really like the camera movement in-cockpit as opposed to the robotic pan in FS9.

Yeah, i got that, especially with the ground objects at the airport. The moving cars - some didnt have textures, and were sorta black flickering.

Should be fixed though :D

I thought this version would support Directx 10 so maybe it just looks better with a Directx 10 cards, as our cards don't support it the graphics may be toned down for Directx 9 cards. Just a thought :)

It has DX10 features, but obviously they will not been seen until the release of DX10 cards and Vista, but the game will still run perfectly in DX9 mode. :)

It's pritty much the same as crysis as far as i'm aware. Most of the screens are taken on a DX9 based card, but primarily DX10 is what everyone is waiting for. :)

I listened to an interview with a member of the MS team on gamespot. He said basically that the game will work on both DX9 and 10 but when DX10 is released they will then release an "Add-On" sort of thing which will add DX10 features. I dont how you will be able to get hold of this add on... by download most probs.

Something along those lines anyway :)

Yep, that was on the Gamespot demo video.

I cant even run the game

Just get an error

"The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall Flight Simulator to restore or repair this missing component"

I tried reinstalling to no avail

After i've "tried" to install it I get an error right at the end of the installation process saying it's been interuppted and will now close. Any ideas?

Short of trying to extract an answer from Microsoft or checking some flight sim forums to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem, fraid not :(

Exactly what i got weird :/

Downloading from MS at 460-500kbps!

I like flight sims, I'm a terrible pilot, put it this way, if you had a choice of being a passenger on my plane or a plane without any wings you wouldn't choose me!

But still, they're fun, I like the landing and taking-off mainly.
