Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

I still think 2024 looks a big step forward and the alpha plus what I have seen of those streamers who did get in is impressive. It is unfortunate the impression of the sim will now be affected by these launch problems.

Managed to get in eventually and did a quick flight with the F18 across Edinburgh; certainly seems to run really well with my 5800x3D and 6900XT at 2K - however a lot of graphical issues (Square blocks instead of trees) and no scenery at all even though Edinburgh was done fairly recently with new bits like the Castle.

I had assumed that MSFS 2024 would just have all the world update content etc from MSFS 2020 but lots of comments on forums suggesting this isn't the case which is pretty shocking tbh.

It's going to take months if not years to get all the third-party content up and running again as well. I'm not expecting much fun/use out of 2024 anytime in the near future. Maybe in a year or two it will be in a state I consider good enough to pump hours into.

I did wonder if its because the Marketplace hasn't been released yet maybe; but some seems to show as "Streamed" and some not; maybe need to try one showing as streamed and see if its there.
Its a bit of a mess at the moment

The scenery is there, the problem is that the streaming servers are overloaded, so users aren't getting all the data necessary to render a high fidelity image. Hence all the memes last night from those that did manage to "log in" about the MSFS Lego 2024 edition.

Managed to get in and this was the result; I didn't realise Morph riding an invisible magic carpet was a plane option

Honestly the exact launch I expected when it was announced the world data would be streamed from the cloud and seeing the Alpha previews and the amount of data it was using. When you see big MP shooters release and the servers collapse on launch there was no way even the smaller numbers this sim would draw would be able to cope with the amount of data being requested at the same time!

Does anyone have the standard version? If so how much are the upgrades to higher versions? I can see the upgrades to Deluxe, Premium Deluxe and Aviator are in the MSstore but because I don't have the standard edition it isn't showing any prices. I think it should show if anyone has it installed via gamepass as well.

Also, is the aviator addon available on top of standard or do you have to upgrade to PD first? The Aviator edition available as a complete package is PD + the extra planes.

In 2020 upgrading from one version to a higher one was prohibitively expensive.
