How important is 2GB of memory for FSX?

My dad has a faster system than me but he is getting stuttering with autogen on and mine seems to run much smoother. The only difference is that I have 2GB memory?

Broadie, check the weird triangular artifact which represents the floor space surrounding the first plane landing in that mission. I saw that weird triangle in mine when doing that mission and it's only on SP1 as well.

Glad to see that. Means it's not just me.

hi there...i know what this is as my aircraft had it on that approach...as it was evening i switched on the landing lights...thats all it is, no artifact just the glow of the lamp under the nose :)

i spotted it when i did the dutch harbor approach flying low over the hills i could see it light up the snow...scared the bejesus outta me as i thought i was going to dig in lol

hope that helps :D

I think that answers your question. FSX is a monster so you need as much CPU and RAM as poss. However I can't vouch for 4GBv2GB in Vista.

Jeez, it's harsh. It could do with some alpha blending to make it look a little more realistic. Roll on DX10 I guess.

Last time i ran the game, my fps was virtually unplayable but im hoping for it to run a whole lot better after the patch. :)

I've also ordered a 3700+ SD for £30 so i'm hoping with a little overclocking the game will be pretty smooth.

Pics will come shortly.

You'll definately see some improvement, but as you're not going dual core and the patch enables support for that, you might not be as impressed as you're hoping.

Just wondering if most of you stick the realism settings up to hard?
I don't primarily as I've got a crap controller and when you start adding complex flight dynamics I tend to eat a lot of tarmac.

It's true that SP1 enables better threading for multiple cores but it'll probaby be due to the fact that Intel C2D is a cracking processor rather than the fact it's dual core. A mate is running a dual core AMD and even with SP1 it's still nowhere near the performance of mine.

A 3700+ will not be man enough to whack the settings any higher than low/medium even with SP1, however that's still better than I had mine before SP1 so it should still make a big difference to the experience you get.

Is there any good mods/addons I should use for FSX? :D

Check out some of Just Flight's products.

Some of their recent releases are dual FS9/FSX so can be used in either. I particularly recommend the latest FLite DC10 pack - particularly the sounds of these "Bad Boy" work-horses. Also worth getting Traffic, which will replace the default AI planes with a much wider selection of aircraft in correct real world liveries.

Finally, go to Simmarket (not sure if I'm allowed to post link so just Google it) and buy one or more of the FScene texture replacement packs - these are only Euro 9.99 each for the download version and transform appearance of the ground. You also get the FS9 version as a bonus too!

wtf 8dvds, how much space will that need, 2 dvds takes like 15gb!
I had to buy another HD as my FSX installation with VFR GenX, Active Sky and MyTrafficX is nearing 100GB.

can you do reverse thrusters in the jets?
Yes.

Is it just C2D owners that are seeing a huge improvement?
Mostly as we're the ones suffering the most in the first place but I've heard single cores are seeing good gains too.

SLi doesn't work IIRC. Or not very well.

Better off with one card, im gonna try crossfire on FS-X tho.

I run a crossfire setup myself, it doesnt help. In fact the game runs better for me with it disabled. I think this is because in crossfire mode the lowest memory card is used, so im only getting 256mb video ram to use in games. Its a lot smoother when i disable crossfire and get the benefits of the 512mb xtx card.

However if you have 2 x 512mb cards, then its a moot point :)

I run the 3 Generation X scenery packs of Britain. 60Gb installed, but its nice. This and MyTrafficX is what im running at the moment along with FSGlobal 2008 for better resolution meshes. I also bought Gatwick Extreme airport pack from ukscenery2000. Thats quite nice.

Just want the rest of the world in hi res satellite now, that should be a few terrabytes. :)
