Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Forget that, lmao.
Depends how you look at it. My mate smokes all day. The amount he spends is a fortune, I mean a FORTUNE, like 40 fags a day. I would say my flight sim hobby is relatively inexpensive in comparison.

how do you use reverse thrusters?
If the default keys are the same as all the other versions, then F1 to cut power to idle, then hold F2 for a couple of seconds for reverse.
As 355 says. Some runways are too short for big craft like the B747 so you'll need to arm the speed brakes, activate them and hit reverse thrust [F2] to bring the old girl to a stop.

I run the 3 Generation X scenery packs of Britain. 60Gb installed, but its nice. This and MyTrafficX is what im running at the moment along with FSGlobal 2008 for better resolution meshes. I also bought Gatwick Extreme airport pack from ukscenery2000. Thats quite nice.

Just want the rest of the world in hi res satellite now, that should be a few terrabytes. :)
Does fsglobal08 actual improve fsx? it says 76m mesh I thought fsx was better anyway, I know it says 'flight sim uses 1.2km' but that cant be true for fsx.

Here's some comparison screenshot's i just found to demonstrate the mesh resolution enhancement. I'm not sure of the exact figures but this mesh data covers the entire globe with the latest nasa data wheras FSX only covers some. Also the res goes down to 19m in some areas, such as the alps etc.

Ah well, I've just ordered the VFR Real Scenery - Central & Southern England (Vol. 2) thing, and the download version of the London scenery. I tried the demos on the site and couldn't believe the difference it made to the framerate! More than doubled it, frequently getting around 90-100fps a sec. The textures are much better than the defaults too. Getting ruddy expensive this Flight Sim lark though ;)

Get some screens up so we can compare it to Horizons VFR GenX. I posted some GenX screens a few pages back in this very thread. There's a bit of heated debate as to which is best, Just Flights or Horizons. I bought Horizons after seeing side by side screens on a forum, the only downside being there is no night lighting yet, but it's on its way apparently.

Edit: VFR GenX screens here

Will do - I'm just installing the London one now so I'll try and put up a few screens later tonight

to save trawling through all the posts, ive got an old VFR scenery disk for the UK that i got for FS9 , will it work with X or is the scenery as good now?

Here are a couple of shots from the VFR Real London scenery as promised. I'm still struggling to sort the blurry scenery though (which plagues my standard scenery too). Seems fine at certain zoom levels bizarrely.

the weird thing is,

now i have been mucking about with the settings and now using a quad core with the service pack 1, i seem to get real nice scenary.

The vfr packs and such look good, but they "to me" dont make that much difference.

Their just photos of the real scenary which look real bad when you go down low.

Now that sp1 is out and performance is improved greatley im finding the auto gen when setup correctly looks really nice. I will try to get some shots tonite to show you what i mean, have just fitted a new p35 ds3p so had to re-install everything and im mucking about with clocking at the moment (well at work at this precise moment in time, but there we go)

I will try to get some pics tonite to show what i mean.

I downloaded this http://www.hifisim.com/ last night. Got the bundle of ASX and X-Graphics.

Only gave it a quick check as it was getting late but it really is quite incredible the improvement it makes. Very nice. Will give it a full going over tonight.

I will now be looking to get some improved meshes which will see me through until the DX10 version appears.

thanks Meths - that works :)

ps - if anyone is getting the major stutters with SP1 - reset

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT

back to equaling 40 if you've tweaked it - makes a big difference

what file is this setting in?

the setting goes in fsx.cfg

ok completely pointless screenshots of an approach to KL

anyone bought ASX bundle yet ?

looks great -but 35 quid is a lot of money for an addon.

Mark.
I have but I haven't had time to really play with it yet but first impressions are:

- Hits performance but still acceptable with SP1
- Hits graphics card HARD so fast and cool VGAs best
- Stunning sky shades, done beautifully
- Clouds are well textured and volumetric with real depth
- Rain and storms now make more sense, not like before

In all, I'd say it's worth it as the results along with photo scenery are just amazing, a real experience. When I get time to play I'll do some screens.

sounds great :)

did it charge you VAT at checkout ? (seems a bit of a lottery with that these days)

Mark.
The price it listed was the price I paid.

Vista 64 with Sp1, clean install services reduced to minimum and av off
Anyone getting minor stuttering in game? even when the framerate is fine? I have vista 64 with my sig below, I have had xp with sp1 and did not get that problem! which drivers does everyone use?
Also why do the graphics pop up right in front on highest settings? also why does the scenery blue and lose detail when external view is switched?

Help

And my texture setting is at 40 if that answers any questions.

Becuase 1GB stutters.
