Microsoft Flight Simulator X

anyone got and installed FS Global X 2008?

Im having a devil of a job trying to get it working.

ive installed the discs and then gone into the FSXGloab Terrain tool as advised and hit the setup for FSGlobal X then made sure the scenery.cgf tool was pointing at the right cfg file.

When i try and load FSX itself i get a "unable to load some program files and will now exit" error.

What did i do wrong?

A quick question, I am running this at 1024x800 (32 bit) and all settings set to Full. However, things don't seem any where near as good as some of the screenies I am seeing. A typical one of mine:

fsx1_800.jpg

I know the scenery is average by default, I am looking at getting the VFR packs maybe but the plane just doesn't have that *shimmer* that other screenies show

PC spec is AM2 3500+ (not X2) and an X800 reflashed to X850XT levels, 2Gb DDR2.

In order to get some better visuals, I assume I would need to run at a fairly higher resolution - in which case, is it gpu or cpu that is currently the problem please?

Its no good - tried it :( feels like flying one large brick of a glider ...

and when coming in - its on "slew" mode for the speed ... feels weird.

Mark.

Fancy flying a space shuttle?

You can fly the in-space and landing parts (doesn't do take off)

I'm not sure that I'd spend £20 on it but it does look really, really good.

You need to check out the videos at the bottom of the page to see it in action as the pics don't really do justice to it.

Make sure you've installed Service Pack 1 (the FSX one that is), find your fsx.cfg file and add this to it:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=15

That'll make sure it's using all 4 cores, having vsync on in certain games under Vista can also negatively affect performance, if service pack and fsx.cfg tweak dont help then try turning it off.

Both your graphics card and processor aren't up to the task.

Hi all

Has anyone tried using there Xbox 360 Pad with Microsoft Flight Simulator X ?

Reason I ask is I ordered that Crossfire adaptor which allows you to use your wireless 360 pads on your PC and I thought maybe it would be cool to use the pad to fly around as although I like my joystick it might be more fun/easier with a 360 pad.

If anyone has tried it any chance of giving your views on it and how well/bad it works with Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Ive tried the wired 360 pad and it's crap, flight sims are made to be used with a joystick/yoke.

i tried it with the xbox pad when i had pc hooked up to new tv (46" 1080p, looked amazing btw) obviously not as good as a proper joystick/throttle but was surprisingly good, felt like flying a radio control plane yaknow

hi

i have ordered the deluxe edition ,but would like to know how it should handle on my pc , my spec is below , also will the Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless Joystick be a good choice for this game and other flight games?

my spec:

vista64bit
e6400
bfg 8800gts
2gig

cheers

I've got a similar spec, bar vista, and it plays great on my PC and I've got a number of add ons that hit performance even harder.

You'll enjoy the experience with that kit, but make sure you install FSX SP1 after you install the game so as to take advantage of the Dual core.

Have heard the Saitek is a good stick though have not used it myslef.

hi

what exactly is the FSX SP1?

and where would i get it

thanks

Hi

FSX SP1 is a performance and bug fix update released by the Microsft Devs so as to improve the performance of FSX, SP = Service Pack. One of the main advantages is that it allows FSX to take advantage of the second cores on Intel Core 2 Duo chips and AMD X2's. I believe it also scales for people with Quad cores.

I noticed a jump in performance of about 40% in FSX after loading the patch.

Also a number of the graphical anomalies have been fixed in this patch.

The patch can be downloaded from

http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXServicePack1.aspx

It's a large file 640mb if I remember correctly.

Hope that helps you out

Has anyone been able to make it to Mali in the limited options mission? The copilot says it is easily doable with no engines but I always ditch about 5 miles from the island :( I follow the VOR perfectly and keep IAS at 192 all the way (-17-1800 fpm)

How much "better" is FSX than FS9, please? My setup is having a bit of trouble getting decent performance on FSX and I am wondering if it is worth me purchasing a (now cheaper) copy of FS9?

I read somewhere for the same system, you will get the same frame rate in FS9 at max settings that you will do in FSX @ low settings?

There are loads of people dumping their FS9 scenery packs etc on the Bay, I'm thinking if FS9 isn't too much worse (with addons) maybe I'll invest and play it for a year or so until I get round to upgrading my system (currently saving for wedding, hence little cash :p)..

Depends on your spec. FS9 is still pretty good though.
