Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Ok, those pics have sold it to me as well as the views from spinner.

So I've just entered my credit card details for the Bundle of All England and Wales. Hopefully should get it by the middle of the week. Think I'm going to be needing a new hard drive soon just for FSX + the add on's. Maybe a nice 150GB Raptor :p

I also downloaded the video of flying over Snowdonia, talk about being blown away.

You can get it from here

Also in one of the pics from the scenery Horizon show a lovely Red Arrow, anyone know of a pack with the Hawk in red arrows colours?

Another notice, can't remember if this has been posted before but there's an update on the FS Insider website with a video of the FSX Add on Acceleration. Looks pretty good.

Thanks

Taff

Some great screenshots, thanks Redline. On the subject of great freeware planes I think the Cessna C150 ranks up amongst the best, I was very impressed with it for a freebie:

I am always looking for other top freeware aircraft, feel free to share your favorite ones!

Isn't that C150 an FS9 plane Linwig ? - I'm sure I tried it, but had to extract it to a folder and manually install it into FSX.

This DH89 is one of my favorites - slow, elegent, lovely to fly and comes in lot of flavors. You'll need to sign up at Avsim to Download it.

A stunning professional job......and FREE.

My FSX addon collection now stands at:

  • Horizons VFR GenX Vol. 1, 2 and 3
  • Aerosoft MyTrafficX
  • HiFiSim Active Sky and X Graphics
  • JustFlight Cargo Pilot
  • JustFlight DC10 Collection
  • JustFlight Airbus Collection
  • Numerous freewarez
I needed a new harddrive for that lot too. When it's all hooked up, it's stunning.

just looking at active sky it requires the deluxe version to go online.do u need to go online to get the weather as it is in real time then because i just have the normal version so is it worth me buying it?

I think you only need the Deluxe version when using ActiveSky in a networked environment, ie when sharing weather. As it stands it will work in the standard version but it's not the fact it can download weather and run in realtime, it's what it does to the weather that is amazing. It literally transforms the skyscape, sun, moon, clouds, rain, lightning, wind, turbulence, everything. It's a superb product. X Graphics takes it further by enhancing the ground, sea, airport tarmac and concrete, really it transforms the atmosphere. As a bundle, it makes a world of difference to what you see when you fly and is a major leap forward from standard.

If you're into scenery and visuals then it's a must.

The problem with VFR GenX being so good is that it makes everywhere else in the world seem like FS2000.

So true - I've lost all interest in flying outside the UK. There are some other decent scenery packs appearing for FSX, namely the MegasceneryX series that I may look into.

I've bought a dedicated 250gb HDD just for FSX and addons - it really seems to help FSX keep working more smoothly.

Yes, your usually given a key which may change if you reinstall, so you may have to go online and enter a proof of purchase code to receive a new installation code. It does vary from company to company.

For those who have just ordered the Horizon scenery - be sure to register it straight away to get the updates for each area...some area's have large inundations of water if you don't patch them.

I also use the modified 'Terrain.cfg' available from avsim.com...this helps to correct area's or ribbons of land appearing in some parts of coast and estuaries - it does have the side effect of water texture climbing some sections of cliff and some outcrops, but is without doubt the lesser of two evils.

There’s plenty of Autogen if you miss it, though most of it is for FS9 it works very well in FSX with GenX...there load of trees and buildings available from www.vfraddons.co.uk and www.visualflight.co.uk

I personally prefer not to use Autogen with photoscenery, but it can work well for low level flying. I do however add the odd radio mast or windfarm, just to have the odd object sticking up on the horizon.

This is just part of arfa's excelent FSX 'Emley Moor' set http://homepage.ntlworld.com/r.ball83/FSXPage.htm

Not my type of game, But think I will download the Demo looks fun
It's a bit far off to call it a game really as it's more a classic simulator because of the accuracy of the flight models, however, I believe Microsoft have done well to give FSX enough 'playability' for a gamer to get something out of it. Usually flight simming is something that seems great on the face of it but requires too much detail to get anything back from it so most people don't give it a second look. Play the demo, experiment with the controls and options and you'll start to get drawn in, I'm sure.
