Microsoft Flight Simulator X

It's a bit far off to call it a game really as it's more a classic simulator because of the accuracy of the flight models, however, I believe Microsoft have done well to give FSX enough 'playability' for a gamer to get something out of it. Usually flight simming is something that seems great on the face of it but requires too much detail to get anything back from it so most people don't give it a second look. Play the demo, experiment with the controls and options and you'll start to get drawn in, I'm sure.
Yeah it's damn immersing and addictive one you get started though :D

M$ have had my copy of FSX for the past month as one of the discs wasn't working & my Windows partition went pop, meaning I couldn't play it for the last few weeks  Ah well should have a shiny new copy and a spare license soon :)

Just wondering after watching some youtube videos, if its possible to go "online"?

It sure is - you even have some people acting as the ATC ;) I really annoyed one of them by spawning in the middle of the runway whilst someone was trying to land :p

It can be amazing online but I find I end up getting buzzed by punks in Harrier Jump Jets while I'm sight-seeing in my Piper.

Excellent!! Does it simulate turbulance from jet exhaust?
Yes, although jet wash and wing induced turbulence are different and modelled differently. I don't know how accurately they affect the plane though.

Sorry to go off on a bit of a tangent guys but I am new to this thread.

What add-ons for Flight Sim x would you recommend & when would I obtain them because those pics above look amazing?

Either. I want to get the best experience I can.

Without doubt get Horizons GenerationX scenery http://www.horizonsimulation.com/shopuk/

I think it's the best thing out there for FSX...I only fly in the UK since getting it the generic 'rest of the world' loses it's appeal once you have experianced it.

There's tons of other stuff out there, but it depends what type of flying you want to do.

Were do you get most of these mods from?

That Emley Moor one looks awsome, can see that form near my house coz it is so tall :D

The link for Emley moor is right above the screenshot, there's also a couple of links on the same post to VFR addon scenery.

Another place to visit is http://www.shepsshed.com/autogentrees.htm you'll find lot of trees and other scenery there - a lot of it is for FS9 but works in FSX using Horizon photoscery.

Apart from the 3 volumes of horizons photographic scenary would you also recommend I download & install the Active Sky & X Graphics package?
What do you want from the sim? If you're a sightseer then look at environmental addons such as VFR GenX and Active Sky but if you're into flight dynamics and controls then look at the various craft available. The sim is a base with a 3rd party framework to turn it into whatever turns you on. What are your priorities?

Keep an eye out for the forthcoming Flight Environment X, if you can't wait try Active Sky + Graphics X. It won't change the ground scenery so much, it's more of a weather and environment upgrade. The results can look superb though :)

vfr night lights

ok i got horizon vfr vol2 and installed it.works fine and everything but on the night there is no lights on anywhere, just on my plane and airport.all the settings in scenery is ticked.is there supposed to be lights on buildings etc.?
