I have traffic x I just need to get that scenery thingy and a quad core cpu.
That is somewhat of a vague and general statement, perhaps you have not managed to get it to work for your specific PC but I use an ATI 4870x2 and I am very happy with the results, ATI works perfectly well with FSX. The main difference between ATI & Nvidia when it comes to FSX is that ATI cannot handle cloud volume very well in FSX due to the way it is coded whereas Nvidia has a much better way to handle cloud volume. On the flip side, ATI has slightly better mip mapping especially at higher resolution in FSX, so it can end up looking slightly better at very high res. All in all, if I would choose a GFX card specifically for FSX then I would recommend Nvidia esp the slightly older range, like 8800 gts, Ultra, 9800 best is any single core card with memory >512mb. For many people, this range seems to give the best overall result for FSX flying.
Here are some shots of FSX with REX & CLS DC-10, this model/plane compares very closely to PMDG MD11, only the flight model is not as accurate, but then again, at least you can it to fly within your lifetime .
Cheers
Agreed. I just can't see them canning the flight sim completely. I can't help but feel that some heads did need to roll after FSX was released though. Multi-core support should have been there from the start. I'm not sure what system they were testing it on when they plucked the system requirements out of the air but it was well beyond a joke.
I am only now able to play it with a decent frame rate and that's a couple of years since buying the thing. I am all for the sim pushing the limits of what can be done, and especially for longevity, although it could have been coded to make use of multi core systems so much better. It's not like they weren't around at the time or knew that they weren't becoming more common.

You aren't wanting a quad core for fsx or games are you?
Sure, just started using MSN, just let me know how to contact you and will go from there.
Why not? - FSX is designed to take advantage of multiple cores.
Hi Soya!
Is there any other way I wonder to send you my emai... hmm can anyone offer any assistance? Cheers
Is there any other forums that you both use that allow pm?
Nice. Some of these screenshots are tempting to treat myself to FSX. I currently use FS2K4. Over the years, I've collected quite a few nice add-ons, PMDG 737/747 (both of which are fantastic) scenery from FlyTampa, and a few others.
Does anyone know if these add-ons will work within FSX, or will I need to purchase versions specific for FSX?
I'm also now the proud owner of a 24" screen, so I'm assuming FSX will allow me to take advantage of the better resolution?
Are we allowed to mention other forums on here?
I do use the one to do with all things TVs and Music and all that!
It's a bit his and miss with using FS2K stuff, some seem to work well, others don't. Most companies have added updated their stuff to FSX, but obvously theres a price premium, but normally they have inproved the graphics and other elements as part of the newer version.
As for a 24inch screen. FSX will take advantage of that. I used to run it on one 24inch at 1920*1200. Though now I have three 24inch screens runnning though a triple head to go, giving me 1 big screen that I run at 5040*1050, it's amazing with that type of resultion split over the screens.
In a couple of months I'm going to be replacing the 4870X2 and Triple Head with a new 5970 so that will then allow me to run FSX at 5760*1200.

AVForums?
Sorry for those who have asked me to contact them. Combination of being very busy and loosing track of this thread.
If anyone still has any questions or needs help with FSX related stuff, just let me know, will try to help out. You may find though that I have answered many questions and given much info in different posts over the past @6 months here, so check out my previous posts for any more info. Cheers.
Another way to contact me is to PM me on the screenshot forums on most of the major FS forums, like flightsim.com avsim forums etc.
In terms of Add ons there are hundreds,
I don't believe these companies are classed as competitors so I think I can name them for you to check out as they have many add ons for whatever you fancy, also there are numerous freeware places to get add ons (best to just google).
Aerosoft
Just Flight
Sim Market
As for traffic, the best products for this are
Traffic X from Just Flight and
MyTraffic from Sim Market
These add a huge amount of detail to the flights into and out of airports and can be based on real time flight details.
As for other add-ons I'm a bit of a junky on this so have loads so have listed some below.
Horizon VFR Real Scenery ( puts a new layer onto the UK maps to provide real photographic imagery, so you can fly over your house and see it)
HeathrowX - Updates the Heathrow area to allow for the current (inc Terminal 5) layout of heathrow.
Real Environment Extreme (REX2) - Allows modelling of the real time weather and updates graphics for many items e.g. runways/clouds.
Active Sky
Active X
Numerous new planes/helicopters
A number of other airport enhancements, JFK, Chicago, Lukla etc.
I've probably spent in the region of £250 on add-ons for FSX, your possibilities are endless depending on what you want to do with it and how much processing power you have in your PC.
Hope that helps a bit.
