**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Oh lol, one guy saying he had a Surface but didnt like it and another saying Windows is better than osX, neither of which are of any use to the guy asking, he's already looking at a Surface, so the Win/osX point is mute and the guy that had the Surface didnt say what he used it for and why he didnt like it..

I've had my Surface for years (3 Pro) and its my everyday device, I dock it at work and at home and have taken it arouind the world..
For what this guy needs it for it'll be spot on, especially as you can now pick them up cheaper as old stock is wanting to be gotten rid of and people are upgrading to the new unit, me for instance, getting rid of my Pro3 to get the new Pro (not 5) might mean you picking up a 3 with more grunt but more miles on it, for the same price as you are looking at for a lower spec Pro 4...

I've already posted in this thread why I didn't like it.

Well it's been 6+ months or so with my Surface, and well, I'm not overly happy with it. Here's my main reasons why.

  • It's not a great laptop as the type cover is flimsy and the track pad isn't nice to use. Which wouldn't be so bad if...
  • ...it was a good tablet. But it's not. You just can't pick it up and use it like an iPad.
  • Still having issues with power/sleep. Such as not waking up from sleep.

I think I'll be keeping it till the new MacBook Pro's come out and grab one of them. Having a larger screen iPhone kind of negates the tablet requirement, saying that I do miss my iPad somewhat. Yeah, I get that I'd have to spend a lot to get where I was, but the truth is I can see the Surface getting sold soon.

Now have an iPad Pro 10.5" with keyboard stand which is more than enough power for me on the move.

I also really dislike Windows 10 with the whole privacy concerns, ad tracking etc and its notifications. I only use it on my desktop because I have to for games.

however w10 is still missing some of the tablet function windows 8 had :(
MS realy are good at missing out on simple easy and fast to code bits. Which would remove a lot of complaints.

my main gripe is, no tablet mode for web browsers like edge in w8 had.

my sp4 gets used at work, on the move and at home. I have a dock at home and at work. I just multiple external monitors, 1x at home, 2x at work... Windows 10 is a frustrating experience wherever i am. When it works, it works well, but when it plays up, monitors arent picked up when plugged in to a dock, scaling causes no end of weird problems that just shouldnt exist especially when running multi-dpi. windows hello sometimes decides it cant access the camera without a reboot. right now i'm having some weird 2d issues with everything grinding to a halt when resizing a window, for example. Not all the time but sometimes...but that's windows 10 insider builds for you. the only reason im running the insider builds is because of the additional multi dpi fixes but in doing so im making a trade off against reliability and having to install the latest insider build every couple of days and why when i choose to REBOOT and not 'reboot and install updates' does it decide to install updates anyway? Normally when i'm busy and usually only because i've HAD to reboot the table to fix some other weird software problem. Again, i'm sure that's an insider issue, but it's that or really broken scaling.

so yeah, 'lol'.

Have had my SP3 and its never missed a beat to be honest.

OSX is a joke professionally, a real mess of a OS. Its fallen so far from what it was just 5 years ago.

How so exactly?
Networking issues, terrible for that, local server issues, CC, After effects and the like breaking all the time from updates. I would need a day to compile an entire list we had of issues before we got rid of them.
This is the second large studio I have left where they quite literally "binned" mac. It was costing company owners more money to fix local IT issues on a daily occurrence.

I dont mind Mac's, they have their place, I dont think Apple are helping themselves though currently..

My new Surface Laptop.

Amazing build quality. Speakers are very punchy (hidden below the keyboard with no grill)

3:2 Screen aspect is the main reason for purchase.

It is the most perfect laptop design I've ever used. Opens with one finger, and resumes extremely quickly.

I've not had a play with one of those yet, probably wont end up with one as the Pro does all I need..

Surface book 2, now that's more like it. Shame it'll be out of my budget, specs are awesome wonder if screen wobble has been reduced.
Although I would prefer it to be a surface pro 4 dock. But at least it's proper gaming/workhorse powered now.

Half of me thinks 15" is perfect and the other half thinks I love the portability of the sp4. I'm not sure, maybe the 15 is a little too big for me.
there's also a 13"
i think it depends on what its main use is, if you want to use it as a tablet a lot, then yes I think its to big, however you mainly want it as a laptop with occasionally detaching it then i think 15" is nice. 15.6 would be nicer, then have a cheap 10-11" tablet for pure media consumption.
