*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I've toyed with the idea of going back to 10, hell, I even tried to get an old laptop on 7 the other week but it was an 8th Gen i5 which is a no go, and for obvious reasons I didn't want to use 8....

Windows 8 is honestly not that bad once you ignore the Start screen and install the likes of StartIsBack. I'd probably still use it in place of Windows 10 if it weren't for the processor restrictions.

So is it 33.9GB or is it 42.5GB - Make ya mind up Windows lols.

Microsoft’s new “Copilot Vision” can see what you browse:-(
Hey Copilot, How do I switch to Linux because MS suck's balls.

According to MS it is entirely  opt-in and only works in Edge. I don't have a problem with it if that is true. (Though there is lots of wording around "initially" which doesn't inspire me with confidence).

I don't see anything copilot related on my install at all. Edit* In Windows, it is only visible in Edge as a toolbar button. Nobody uses edge though so that's all good.

What is actually freed up by Disk Clean-up and what it says is often completely different as well. Also doesn't mean it will entirely delete the Windows.old folder or all of previous installation files, it may deem some still necessary which may be part of why there is a discrepancy.

If that's the case, then its not as bad... yet. I think Windows should just be an OS, all the other stuff should be apps that can be installed if users want. MS knowns nobody would install any of it so are trying to force it. I hope AI is a bubble and it pops soon (probably not though:-().

Exactly. Why force everyone? I would rather them having even a little add saying you can install this and integrates well with windows.

I mean look. Many installed chat gpt. Do the same. But yeah. They want everyone's data.

They know they will go in slow. Then bit by bit make it mandatory part of windows. I will be monitoring. If that happens. I will just have windows for gaming and Linux for everything else.

Quite a lot of people do, it's Chromium based and up until some of the recent sidebar updates, it's actually very good.

This^^
I tried Edge when it first came out back in the day, but it was a real struggle, its was poop, but since they went Chromium based, as a lot of other browser engines are, its just as good as anything else, bar all the crud MS put into any of their products..

Edge does not have the same cross platform sync and flexibility that Firefox does so for me Edge is only used on certain sites like my work's perks and payment portals which they designed only to work with Edge.

Eugh, why would anyone design anything to work specifically with one browser anymore, I thought that idea had been flushed a long time ago..

Closest I get to cross platform is Windows/iOS/iPadOS and that works fine for me between 1 PC, 2 laptops, iPad and iPhone..

I agree that Edge has come a long way since the start. Definitely the most efficient I've found (and most secure perhaps?) being integrated with Windows.

And the MS bloat that comes in addition is easily removed and it can be taken down to more of a 'bare bones' type browser which only takes a few minutes to do.

I do wonder if Edge will still support certain manifest V2 extensions when Chrome stops support for them in Jan 2024. I know Brave stated they will which is a chromium browser.
