*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I did the upgrade from 10 to 11 and my X-FI XtremeMusic card still was working fine.. It must be 15+yrs old now and its still being supported:D
.
Just to confirm that Windows 11 works with my sound card also.

Had a bit of a strange moment when I tried to play a YouTube video with Chrome Edge and I didn't hear any sound from my rear speakers on my 5.1 setup. Yet I heard sound from the rear speaking when playing the same video using Firefox.

Tried Edge on my current Windows 11 setup and I also get the same result. Phew...I think! :o

check CSM is disabled and look under Boot>Secure Boot and make sure OS Type is set to Windows UEFI Mode. Also check you have the keys installed, they are also under Secure Boot.

***this is on CH8, but should be similar on CH7.

Thanks for the advice, I had to disable CSM and reinstall Win 10 for the secure boot to be enabled, currently installing Win 11.

Cinebench CPU score is down ~1500 points with Win 11, also using much more RAM.

1500!
I am down about 100 ish.. might make another run in a bit.

I can confirm at idle I was using around 2.5GB Vs 2.8GB now

On Windows 10 it boots to a lockscreen that, like you say, you then have to hit a key to get to the login screen. I much prefer it to just boot straight to the login screen rather than a useless screen that adds an extra, unnecessary step.

https://superuser.com/questions/1537292/in-windows-10-how-do-i-boot-directly-into-the-login-screen

It's a good step on domain joined PCs as it means that the usernames are hidden on locked computers for people walking past etc.

I just used DDU to clean my AMD drivers, safe mode was not fun! When booting into safe mode I get repeated error dialogs(2000+ over two boots) that make it hard to do anything, had to alt-tab and open task manager just to switch context. I then ran DDU but had to search c:\ drive for msconfig.exe and then turn safe mode booting off. I also re-installed AMD chipset drivers to try and fix my CPU boost issue(only boosting to 4.3, was hitting 4.6 in win 10) but did not fix it. The display refesh does feel a little smoother now but might be placebo effect?

Just installed the latest insider build (22000.51) to my Z370 based I7 8700k and all seems fine so far, just the one driver (unknown device) issue but I'll sort that tomorrow.

I don’t see 11 driving a spike in PC sales (or at least anything meaningful), if anything it’s being aimed at businesses and will be used as a driver for Microsoft’s cloud services where Microsoft are making a good proportion of their profits.

So, im trying to install Win 11 on my desktop, which is an asus crosshair hero vii,amd ryzen 7 2700x.

I have enabled the TPM and Secure Boot, but Secure Boot isnt enabled when i look in sysinfo, any ideas how to fix this ?
Your boot drive needs tobe GPT for secure boot to work
