Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

I'm finding the combat in this a real challenge - I've never struggled with the Batman games before but things here seem to be taken to an extreme, sometimes the waves of orcs seem absolutely endlessly and fights drag on past the point of being enjoyable.

Might depend on your level. Once lvld up a fair bit you can scare huge groups of them off.

Same here, except I hadn't played either Assassin's Creed or the Batman games before, so I'm a total novice. I'll persist with it, because when things go right it's incredibly satisfying, but I just think the difficulty level is pitched a bit too high at the start. Thinking I might start a new game all over again actually - there's rather too many orcs getting over-promoted at my expense this time round!

Once you get the skills that extend the combo meter and lower the number required for finishers it becomes rather easy and a lot more fun, as you can despatch hundreds.

I very much doubt killing, possibly a fight...given that we know Sauron is alive after the events of the game (supposedly takes place between the hobbit and LOTR) and only dies after the one ring is destroyed :p. I would assume it is a flashback where celebrimbor fights sauron, though this is obviously being very loose with the lore

Let's face it this game doesn't give a **** about the lore in the slightest :p

Enjoying this so far. Ive only completed a handful of the main quests, the rest of the time I run around aimlessly doing nothing much productive lol.

Its a good game. But Im starting to realise that in my old age I think I appreciate games that are more linear and story driven these days. I get a bit overwhelmed by being able to run anywhere and lose track of what Im doing :)

Getting on ok, but finding it hard to get motivated to play it tbh. Best played in half-hour bursts as you are basically doing the same thing all the time.

I'm with you both.

I am really enjoying this game but I have a couple of captains who are a right pain to take out. For example one who is an archer who is immune to executions, immune to stealth, and fires explosive arrows that more or less one shot me. He is level 20 and kills me every time I see him. He is not immune to ranged but I can get him down to about 50% at best with my 8 arrows at the moment.

The other who is only level 13 or so but is a spear thrower who is also immune to executions, immune to ranged, and poisons me all the time. Right pain!

For the most part I am really enjoying the game but the immunities the captains can get can make taking on certain captains a really rough experience, upping the difficulty ridiculously from when you fight normal mobs and captains.

Check the Intel screen, see if they have any fears or weaknesses. Using those can sometimes deactivate their strengths, making them vulnerable. Also, there's a skill in the tree that makes you take much less damage from explosives, very useful against boomstick captains. You just stand there while they light all their mates on fire.

With combat, once you have unlocked a few skills I find an easy thing to do is Wrath stun them, flurry them which explodes their head and then use the dismember finisher on the nearest orc, and repeat the process.

Having the jump over move which stuns enemies is very useful as well, and having runes in your weapons that have a chance to restore health and focus is also a good thing.

Also, unlock the extra health tiers ASAP

Hoping to finish this today, spent an unhealthy amount of time on it yesterday.

Had a captain yesterday, can't remember his name but he title was "Tree Killer", spent so much time trying to kill him, sometimes he'd kill me, other times he escaped. When I finally did get him, it was very bitter sweet. :(

Had an elite captain yesterday who could only be hurt by stealth finishers. Had to keep sneeking up on him, stealth "kill", run off and repeat. Had to do that 6 times before he was low enough to actually grab and brand. Not seen one so immune to attacks before though. Couldn't even use combat finishers on him as he'd simply grab the sword and recover a tonne of health lol. Also couldn't use caragors, fire, wasps or even ranged.

Nightmare!

What an absolute stunner of a game ! I'm 31% in and just manages to take down the first 4 warchiefs after many fails.I did have trouble in the beginning with running the game at ultra settings as for some reason sli wasn't working correctly but you can fix this by setting Sli rendering mode in Nvidia control panel by setting it to force alternative frame rendering 2.Works a treat :D

It is very similar to AC but added with the lotr twist makes for an exciting story line.

but I will admit it is VERY to stray away from the story line
