Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Bought this last night and played it for an hour or so, enjoyed it even though I'm not much into lotr at all.

The combat is pretty good, but seems a bit noddy. I remember a great game called Severance Blade of Darkness on which you could learn better and more difficult moves as you progessed. You would have to pull off a knuckle busting combo of button presses to execute the move. But the kills got more and more interesting and spectacular to keep you interested. There were also multiple moves for a variety of weapons, including spears, short one handed swords and axes or double handed etc. Does this get anything like that or do you just continue to mash buttons all the way through to the end?

Yeah you do mash buttons, but you can do it skilfully if you want to. There are times when you have to defeat looooads of orcs at once, and you can later on in the game. You just counter and smash them up, execute after like 4 hits at the stage I'm at.

I do quite like the sleeping dogs / assassins creed style of counter / block / attack combat, but it does get a bit samey. It would be nice to have some difficult moves to pull off, aka severance or virtua fighter. I suppose it wouldn't appeal to the lazy demographic though...

Wait until you get a horde of over 100 orcs, still very tough to kill them all..

85% complete now in about 34 hours I think.. Still really enjoying it, need to wait a week or two before the season pass lowers in price I think, got £40 in my steam wallet but hate paying full price for games on steam these days... :)

See now I would say Batman 1 and 2 yes (Origins not so much as not same developer and was clearly a cash in while the 1 and 2 devs did number 4) while AC 1 and 2 are slow and dull, Brotherhood and Revelations are ACE, 3 is OK at best and 4 is much better than 3 but not as good as Brotherhood and Revelations

The Assassin's Creed games are brilliant, far superior to Batman, as good as Batman was. Don't listen to these naysayers! AC is like a much more fluid, beautiful, exciting version of Shadow of Mordor. And, huge plus point, you get to change things in the game! Weapons, skins, sometimes buy up houses and brothels and stuff. Damn good games. The new one comes out next month.

The combat in AC is what makes it dull for me, though I did enjoy the story of AC2. The combat is just far too easy. It's literally impossible to be killed.

Killed my first War Chief last night. Despatched Him and his minions in no time at all. I have only done about 4 missions but put in well over 20 hours.

If they're difficult, definitely get the bodyguards first. That makes killing the warchief 10 times easier. If they're someone who's quite hard to get the first hit on, I'd strongly recommended using fire ie pushing them in a fire, or blowing up a grog container.

Get intel on what their strengths/weaknesses are and exploit that. Best way but do it after destroying their bodyguards (or if later in the game branding)

76h played.

Finished, with 100% achievements... spent an hour after completing the storyline finishing off the last 2 or 3 achievements I needed.

Absolutely! Awesome! Game!
