Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Well, completed this on Friday, and... *SPOILER*

REALLY... are you seriously telling me that instead of some epic battle with the Black Hand, you just jump on him 4 times to drain him? And that after a Orcs vs Orcs fight scene where you can literally just stand there and watch your guys kill everyone? What a load of crud, and especially disappointing as until then I had found the cut-scenes etc all very immersive! They could have done way better...

So, yeah.

Started this yesterday and absolutely loving it, but I have 1 gripe! Perhaps it's because I'm having to force SLI as it's not naturally supported but performance seems so random at times. I play with Vsync on and I can be fighting a load of Orcs in an absolutely gorgeous local and maintain 60fps, but then I'll be fighting 2 or 3 Orcs in a barren part of the map and my fps will come crashing down to 30-40

Any one else using SLI or Crossfire have this problem?

At least it's playable in that state. I played 30% or so of the game with my single 6970 and the game was flawless. Installed a single R9 290 afterwards and I have yet to fix the fact that my frame rates randomly drop from 60 to 10 or so every 10-15 seconds. No end of drivers or even a Win7 reinstall sorted it. Ended up completing the whole game in this botched state. Strangely I have the same problem with another WB game - Batman Arkham City. Every other title I play is perfect.

I get that too some times. Strangely enough the only way I can get it to jump back up to 60 is to minimise the game and then it's fine again

I'm on the Kill The 4 Warchiefs section, and I've only managed one of them as every battle turns in to me versus 30 orcs, including one or two captains. I can't even get a hit at the chief due to the pile of baddies relentlessly crowding me out.

Any tips?

One tip, which didn't work for me but may for you. In the Video settings menu, run the game on Borderless. Apparently this has worked for a lot of folks.

What skills have you got unlocked, and what level are you at?

It may be worth hunting a few lesser captains to get some XP and/or new runes, see if that helps.

General rules:
Try to use your 'finishers' on captains if they can be damaged by them.
Don't be afraid to run out of LOS, circle around a building and do a drop stealth kill on one of them.
Use campfires/barrels liberally to thin out the horde.

You need to whittle down the powerful captains that protect the Warchiefs so that the ones you end up facing aren't so bad Just go and assassinate all of the higher tier mofos that you can before you go for the Warchiefs.
