Midweek Football Thread *spoilers*

Birmingham just scored their second. That makes it 2-0 and the pass that came in was perfect. Jerome just smashed in a pass that came in from the wing, he's scored both goals for Brum.

I have to say Milner really is showing some fantastic form recently. We seen glimpses of that at Newcastle, but with a better standard of players around him, he's really showing everyone what he's capable of.

Yeah Carrick has a question mark over his head too, missing the whole beginning of the season wasn't right especially when Ferguson started talking about Carrick being a player who only finds his form a few months into the season. He wasn't even being selected for the team during the first number of games so that really baffled me, how is a player supposed to find form by not playing?

Fergie was bang on the money about Carrick though, apart from his first season each of the last two Carrick has taken a couple of months to slip into the grove and this season was no different. It is fair though to say that this has been Carrick poorest season with us to date but having said that Fletcher, Evra & Giggs aside I dont think any of the players can state they've had a great season thus far so Carrick isn't alone.

I'd say he's found his limit with Villa, even at a team like Liverpool I think he'd get lost ala Robbie Keane

stupid foul by Obertan there, just ran up to him and kicked him

was that a shot or a cross

Neither. There was a wasp bothering someone up in the stands, Obertan took it upon himself to rid the world of another wasp and be a hero. And he is. A hero. How bad do you feel now?

I still don't see why he didn't play or wasn't even named on the bench. The thing is that it could be counter productive, it might create a mental block that Carrick sees at the start of every season now. That he won't find his groove until a few months in and needs extra time. Opposition teams giving him little time on the ball also hampers his game and this is his biggest weakness as exposed many times. He has the ball, you run at him, he'll give it away or pass it backwards. His passing with both feet can be exceptional, absolutely no doubts about that. An ever changing central midfield doesn't help anybody, especially our central midfielders.

I hope Vidic is just coming off to be rested!

Granted he couldn't pass for toffee against Villa but that's madness, Carrick is without doubt our best passer and opens up so many attacking opportunities for us just by being able to pass it with both feet

Fletcher has probably made it harder to call Carrick our best midfielder but if he isn't then he's certainly in the top two

On his day yes, I would agree. I just don't think he has enough to his game to define what his best role is. I still think he has a lot to learn from Scholes in that you can hurt the opposition with short passes as much as you can with long passes which seem to be Carricks preference.
