Monaco Grand Prix 2010, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

Pretty much every driver gunned it. Even the commentators and ex-racers where saying it was a race for the final corner.

They should have told the teams before hand if it was any different. rubbish decision. As Much as I hate MSC, almost every driver gunned it, apart from LHamilton, or did he just mess up.

Oh and I need to slap, hit and then kick the commentators. They kept saying the back teams should let alonso through, that they where in a different race. Actually no they aren't, they are in the same race and have every right to fight for position. Regardless of who is behind them.

I think it was Grassi ragging the nuts off his Virgin in front of Alonso (HA!). It was great to watch, and he was keeping Alonso behind for a good amount of time. Kovi tried to block the line he was planning to use but completely failed to realise Alonso was just going to use the normal racing line..

yea if it were just for "show" they should have made it clear rather than fake a last minute dash for the line

did the SC cars light go out on the last lap to indicate a safety car period was over? i cant remember

if anything its a race control balls up and they shouldnt penalise a team or driver when they dont give a clear indication of wether its racing or not.

sc pulls in , teams are told track is clear , green lights are on.

under any normal situation you gun it if they dont want overtaking they should have kept waved yellows

One part of today that did annoy me was when Brundle said that at the end of the day, the Virgin was in a different race...

No, its the same race, and the longer he holds that racist ignorant teflon coated **** behind him the better.

They did go out, not sure at which point though.

It wouldn't be a problem last year and perhaps why the rules are confusing. as the overtake point has been changed.

The pass would have been legitimate if they had been racing, but they weren't. The rules state (article 40.13 as shown above) that if the final lap starts under the safety car it will come in at the end of the lap and the cars will proceed to the finish line in their current order. It's actually simple and clear. So Ross Brawn didn't know the rules, whos fault is that?

It doesn't state that 'If the final lap starts..' it states if the race ends.

Like i said, the problem has been brought about by the stupid safety car line. It was fine not able to pass until the start finish line as it always has been. And if it had been that way today, it would have solved this whole thing. I can see the safety car line being thrown out.

After reading article 40.13 the rules contradict themselves. You can't penalise a driver for a rule that in my mind was superseded by the SC line, considering that was the latest development, and for the entire race, racing began from the SC line when the SC entered the pits.

Exactly, the rule was left in by mistake and has been over risen by the change in sc line. Really hope they win appeal, it is retarded and I was hoping that fia had turned a new corner this year.

Yeah, i am sure the teams of lawyers than likely got paid millions left it in by mistake.

I think it is likely when they introduced the safety car line, nobody thought about a last lap event, or Charlie didn't think about the rules in the heat of the moment and released them.

TBF i am an Alonso fan so find the whole thing funny. But at the same time, i can see how both Ferrari and Merc are right. I wouldn't have liked to have been a steward deciding what one to go for. I'd probably toss a coin lol

I think they're in the middle of negotiating that new corner. This is a mis-step, and one that will hopefully be rectified with the appeal. It'd be a shame to see things go back to the way they were.

Finished under safety car - SC boards still on display

Apparently finished under the safety car too - Green flags out and no SC boards.

Those 2 facts tell me that it was race conditions not safety car conditions.
Race Control failed this weekend. There should have been no punishment, no change to the positions and most importantly a referral to the WMSC to get the regulations clarified.

I'm no fan of Schumacher or Alonso *as is pretty much obvious. ;)* but even I could see that this is a ridiculous decision.

Also - Damon Hill was an advisior to the stewards and could only have given his opinion if asked and has no voting rights at all.

Ultimately yes the rule states no overtaking if the race finishes under the safety car, but the race did not finish under the safety car. Pulling in before the last corner but still under SC conditions is entirely different to sending out safety car in and track clear messages and waving green flags.

It was race conditions for that final corner, no two ways about it and the move should have stuck.

The logic of having appeal-able and non appeal-able punishments is absurd though, I don't get that, you should be able to appeal any punishment if it is handed out in error. It's just flat out stupid having post race punishments you can't appeal, so even if you prove it was applied in error it still sticks . That's nothing but retarded.

Also, nothing ever came of Massa crossing the pit exit line :/

Truly shocked by the way they handled the Schumacher situation. Every driver on the track gave it the beans once the safety car turned in, Alonso got out of shape and Schumacher passed on green flags.

Should have been clear cut tbh. If the race was still under safety car conditions then why bring it in?

Because if the race is to finish under safety car, it still comes in, presumably for image purposes so it's not in any photos or videos of the finish line.

BUT when it has done that previous, as someone pointed out above in Aus last year, there are still waved yellows and so on, not green flags.
