Monaco Grand Prix 2014, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

The stewards will not only look into whether the 28-year-old deliberately went off the track, but also whether he tried to reverse out of the escape road while qualifying was active.

Considering the quote from the BBC in to what they were investigating no penalty seems odd as, surely that he tried to reverse out is pretty much unquestionable, from you know, the fact that he reversed out while qualifying was still happening?

Someone reversed out of St Devote in FP3 (I forget who) almost into the apex of the corner. No action taken there either.

Well, I foresee this situation happening again in the future.

It's going to be tough at most other tracks as most don't have such short run off area's plus if the same guy does it over and over(and as yet no one else has reason to.. well maybe Vettel if he ever gets ahead of Riccy :p) it would be obvious. Likewise unless you're out before all the other drivers every time it won't work and frankly Monaco is his best track so he won't be faster earlier in Q3 at most tracks on the first run.

What's the bet that Alonso doesn't allow Kimi to pit before him under any circumstances, while Kimi (or Ferrari) have allowed Alonso to pit first and gain an advantage despite Kimi being ahead of him on track.

That's not the way it works. Assuming the same strategy, the driver ahead gets the first call and if he declines the 2nd placed driver has the opportunity.

That's basically his point, last race Alonso appeared to get preferential treatment despite being behind, which irked Kimi.

though I don't know if he was irked because they let Alonso pit first or because they told him a two stop was the better strategy when it pretty clearly wasn't. if he'd been on two stop and pitted ahead of Alonso there was no obvious reason he wouldn't have finished ahead of Alonso.

Not the first time Kimi has been on the wrong strategy this year, but it also happened quite a few times last year.
