Mondeo's...

I see, so now Mondeos are cars for 70 year olds are they?

I wonder what proportion of new Focus were sold to over 65's versus new Mondeo's. I suspect more went for a Focus becuase they considered it a more manageable size..

Lots of talk of old mans cars on this forum, mostly from people who demonstrate on a daily basis how utterly clueless they are, most elderly gentlemen I see drive around in supermini's...

If you can read that... thats the quotes for a 306..

You can't deny you see more and more young folk driving the Focus over the Mondeo. Think outside of OcUK for once Fox.

On that note time for some BF2.

Guys, chill out. This thread is painful to read.

Chopper (I CBA with character map :p), I'd advise you not to set your heart on a particular car. I've had a lot of cars in the past for this sort of budget and the best way to get a bargain is to trawl the free ads and eBay (not Autotrader) and search for anything under your budget. Don't be picky, just look for the longest possible MOT and the best possible condition. If you get tax as well all the better. Don't get hung up on mileage - for this money it's not really a consideration.

I wouldn't go for the "named driver" route. Legal implications and self-righteous bickering aside, you'll regret it in 12 months time when you want to upgrade and have no NCB. You will be better off with a lesser car (1.1 Mk3 Fiesta for instance) under your own insurance if necessary. Any first car will feel like a dream come true, it certainly did for me.

Good luck and enjoy. Your first drive in your own car will be one of the best feelings you've ever experienced. I wish I could do it all over again.

Edit: Last bit of advice.... please take someone with you who knows about cars. I've seen so many people fall for dodgy used car dealers, posing as genuine sellers and selling cars fit for the scrapyard. The last thing you want is your dream of freedom and the open road being shattered by big end failure.

"Don't worry about that noise, it's just something rattling around in the boot" :D

306 dturbo it is then! :D

There is a link somewhere to the "super duper insurance search" on money saving expert which should bring those prices down by a few qiud too. Saw on here a couple of days ago.

By far the most helpful reply in this thread. Look for w/e suits your basic requirements that is in the best condition and has the longest possible mot.

For the first year you'll be fueled by the novelty of driving, well first few months at least. I'd also recommend getting your own policy, I fronted but don't really find myself in a better position (no I haven't crashed or anything or been found out, just 2ncb would be a lot better than 1 in my position).

Ohh and in the Tom|NBK vs [TW]Fox, Fox wins :p

Fortunately unlike Foxy I don't take the forum literally enough to give a **** :D:p

Chopper how come you're getting rid of the Escort?

Ours cost us £270, helps if you avoid the owners clubs until you've got one, less toy tax.

306?

I'm not saying it's impossible to get one for £500 or under.

I'm saying it's not the best choice. The engines are rock solid if looked after.

The rest well......

I'd be looking at Mondeo's or Escort's.

if you want to make your life horrible go buy a 1.4 mondeo :)

yes they do exist(although not many)

fwiw get a 1.8 mondeo and suck up the cost of the extra insurance,

much more capable car plenty out there for pennies(bought one with a years ticket before xmas for a mate for 350 quid)

buy ir run it a year then flog it for minimal loss.

Ah right so is there any reason why you wouldn't consider an Escort Chopper or do you just want something different?
