Pressure mounted on organisers of the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday after the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, demanded they be stripped of the right to host the race.

His call comes after senior backbenchers cast doubt on the right in the wake of the international crisis following the flight MH17 disaster.

Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One's supremo, has insisted the race, a pet project of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will go ahead despite growing international calls. Putin has a good relationship with Ecclestone and has paid £120 million to host the race over five years.

As with the Bahrain Grand Prix, F1 has largely gone to ground on the issue and deferred to motorsport's governing body, the FIA, for guidance about whether the race scheduled for October 12 will go ahead. A spokesman told Telegraph Sport they were "awake to the situation" but do not mix politics and sport.

While Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, was not speaking for the government in his call for the race to be cancelled, it now poses the question as to what Downing Street's view is.

Wish politics would just do one and **** off. There's enough of it in F1 as it is.

Ignore all their whinging and go ahead with it.
It's motorsport, it's got sod all to do with a plane crash and some slimy politicians.

This week I have mostly been working at Red Bull in Milton Keynes. Sadly I didn't managed to get any gossip and I didn't get to see any big names, none that I recognised anyway, I did keep an eye out for Horner.

I will be back there again briefly tomorrow, anyone know if Sparky still frequents the forum?

After a tough start to the season, McLaren's progress has been gathering momentum in recent races. The team may be only sixth in standings going into the summer break, but they are just one point shy of Force India and have out-scored their closest rivals 25 points to 11 over the last three rounds. In this video we analyse just some of the developments that have been made to the Mercedes-powered MP4-29 as the British squad bid to lift Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen up the order.

Won't they all be on summer shutdown?

I've seen Sparky in other threads, think he stays out of here now though.

Went to the F1 show today with my housemate, was pretty good.

Gates open at 6.15 and apparently people had been queueing for some time, some people travelled from Liverpool and Scotland which is quite a commitment. One nutter flew in from Germany for the show!

I got there at 6.50, they basically put you in a couple rooms with big TV's showing a race replay of Hungary with teas, coffee's etc... Then half an hour before the show they take you to the studio, tell you what's what and what to expect. They pre-record the first 30 seconds and the rest is live.

Once the show is over you get to talk to all of them, although most of this time was taken up by audience people taking selfies with everyone... They certainly don't rush you though and were very amiable.

I didn't take any selfies but I do have a picture of Natalie stripping :p

I do wonder if the FIA do 'spot checks', turning up unannounced to make sure the teams are actually giving their staff two weeks off and downing all tools or do they take the teams word for it?

I forgot it was shut down! Walked into the race bays and its like a scene from 28 days later. Spooky as you walk through there or design and there is no body. Full car on stand in design looks odd now plonked between desks.
