Red Bull sold almost 10 billion cans of drink in 2021 (increase of 24% from 2020), I don't think anything they're doing across all the sports they're a part of is harming their brand. :p
Completely agree. The whole situation doesn't extend beyond F1, and even inside F1, it means very little - the only group affected by it are LH fans.

It's Christian himself that keeps bringing up the harming of the brand stuff and how it's so damaging and shocking to hear of people calling out their cheating, not Lewis Hamilton fans. Anyone who is fed up with Redbull is not automatically a Lewis Hamilton fan.

One of the all-time great moments in motorsport. And made all the more sweet by him dumping Hamlin out of the title fight with it.

Days like that you need ol' DW commentating, really. "Have you ever?!" "No I've never!!" :D

Since they've said that wouldn't be allowed in quali, seems strange it was allowed in the race. Talk of making a "Chastain" rule now to stop it. I don't follow Nascar or know the history but it seems just another form of cheating to me there. I mean it's cheap, dangerous and a bit lame. 2.5 seconds a lap quicker than everyone and holds the lap record now as well? Dirty "racing".

Any team principal is going to say the exact same things - it's their job. From a company perspective, ignoring it or deflecting in interviews is just as bad. As a bonus side-effect, they get to avoid Sky.

The vast majority who complain are LH fans, especially on this forum. Social media is even worse.

Every time he is reminded of what happened the truth is starting to nag at him now and he's clearly getting upset, hence spitting his dummy out with the Sky boycott.
Who wouldn't? Imagine being asked the same thing every year, especially when you had nothing to do with it. It's not like drivers become drivers to talk to the media; if they never had to speak to another reporter again, I'd imagine most would jump at that opportunity.

There would be minimal point doing it in qually, since the move pretty comprehensively trashed the car. But yeah, there are rules against that sort of thing on a qualifying lap anyway (any real contact with the walls beyond a rub is a no-no).

The race is different though. It was the final lap, it's a short track (shortest on the Cup tour, I reckon) so the speeds are low-ish, plus NASCAR does operate a sort-of 'have at it' policy for a lot of stuff where the only person likely to get hurt is you.

I said after Abu Dhabi last year that everybody lost from that farce including Max, even if he didn't know it yet. Every time he is reminded of what happened the truth is starting to nag at him now and he's clearly getting upset, hence spitting his dummy out with the Sky boycott.
It was the FIA that robbed Lewis, why does Max care about that wasn't his fault.

RedBull have admitted as much.

I don't hold that against Max but you can't talk about 2021 without mentioning it really

It's probably going to have to banned for fear of copy cats now. Imagine the last corner carnage as everyone slams up against the wall

I suspect Max is starting to struggle with coming to terms that there's more to this sport than driving around a race track really fast. When you're at the top, everybody is after you. And not just on track. Maybe he'll give Hamilton and those with multiple world titles a bit more respect going forward.

I don't think he lacks respect for any of them. Has he said something somewhere?

It's nothing new that the title challenge is stressful. Every driver goes through it. Ham vs Ros has a lot of heat, and they were both super emo. As soon as they're out of the fight they normalise into much nicer people.

Teams would get pretty bored of the expense involved in rebuilding the cars. That'd put a stop to it being used as a frequent tactic.

***edit***

And think on - it worked here because Martinsville is essentially two drag strips linked by a couple of tight, fairly flat turns. At most other short tracks (Bristol, TN for one) this isn't something that will gain you much because the turns aren't as slow.

So it's only viable here...and you destroy your car in the process...and it only works if you're in chasing down distance of the person you need to get by...and they need to be off the top groove on the straight once you arrive there with a busted car and a head of steam.

Yeeeaaaaahhh...I don't see this one being repeated a lot.

Seems like Red Bull have ended their indefinite Sky boycott already, that didn't last long. Maybe Christian was finding it too difficult to give up the airtime.

Marketing from RB stepped in I bet, straight away he would have been told "cut that **** out, you can't control any narrative if no one wants to talk to in fear of a backlash". He will have been slapped into place....yet again.
Have to remember, it's a Redbull car with lots of other sponsors, they will plenty of clauses.

It's probably because Ted was forced to accept a 10% reduction in broadcasting time for his notebook and a £24 fine* (completely made up) and as a suitable punishment has been issued we all have to move on and accept whatever Sky might have implied could have been incorrect, it was just a minor breach and didn't have any influence in his performance.

Or for those that live in the real world... Sky have got in touch with Red Bull, had some discussions, apologised and had a word with Ted so now everything can move on like normal....

No chance that happened, Horner would be telling everyone about it. Other Sponsors have basically said abotu TV time and on screen time etc and told them to shut up. Sponsors and Money make things happen, not small apologies. They tried the PR game of " Dont look at us spending rule breaking, please....,look..Ted said a thing!", no one bought it.

I meean what ya think Sky would say..." Hye..sorry, yea, we wont be critical of you any more?...W e will give you pre press question you can pre pare for?, we wont talk about any times rule breaking has happenned? " lol.

I feel like I'm talking to a child. I think I'll leave this here.

Have you ever seen a sponsorship contract?...jsut curious?
What do you think Sky said to Redbull? What agreement do you think a official broadcaster made to Horner? What limits on their discussion on camera do you think they had? What permissions do you think where granted for Pit wall radios, Interviews, sponsored segments/ filming for a season?
Each team will be signed up to certain press, filing right and broadcasting rights etc, do you think they mentioned those?
How do you think other teams contracts will change when they discover Sky HAVE to perhaps be "nicer" and " more favourable" to one team but not everyone else who have all signed the same broadcasting rights?

Yeah, I called it. They let Horner play his Boris Johnson type card for a week to detract from the budget cap shenanigans. But now the sponsors have stepped in and questioned why their logos aren’t on prime time anymore.. sigh.

By the way, what’s happened to Karun? He hasn’t been on for the last few races has he? Have I missed something?
