An intriguing move but if you’re not winning anyway why not move to do his twilight years in red. Here’s hoping it turns out to be a McLaren to Merc style move in a couple years with the new regs. A multi-year does leave speculation that Hamilton knows something we don’t.

Maybe but he's obviously not sure Mercedes can get back to the top; I can't blame him given the staff exits, etc over the last couple of years - he might as well take one last gamble.
That said I'm with Martin Brundle on this; he'll win races at Ferrari but he won't win another Championship.

The allure of Ferrari is clearly still strong!
 
This could work out really well for Sainz if Perez has another rubbish season at Red Bull

Sainz would be a good choice as no.2 to Max. He won't trouble Max much but he will be solid and score good points. Arguably he'd be a better choice than Ricciardo who I still think is past his best.

If they do want to replace Perez, who else really is there available who would do better?

What are Mercedes staff going to help sort out? They lucked out in 2014 by making the best engine on the grid by miles whilst also having a decent aero team and rode the coattails of that ever since. Not sure how that is going to help Ferrari now.
