Motorsport Off Topic Thread

Pretty much. :p All joking aside, it gets a bit frustrating when the same arguments happen repeatedly, making it hard for someone like myself to contribute when several members are arguing about who is correct and neither of them can have any effect on the outcome of the on-track manoeuvre. I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular.

I don't understand why a thread gets locked because someone has had enough of a particular topic (that is still ongoing). Just don't read it if you're not interested.
But what new discussion are you bringing? It feels like it's been done to death in the race thread.

McLaren have just lodged an appeal.

If the actual F1 team hasn't moved on from it, why should the discussion around it be stifled in a public forum...?

By all means if there is some new information or news to discuss then post it and discuss it, however going around in a circle with the same arguments and counter-arguments from both sides adds nothing.

Post #400 in the race thread said this.

Queue a 50 page thread incoming!

I suspect it was a bit tongue in cheek but in reality. the thread was closed on post #675, so that was nearly 300 posts going round and round in circles with the same repetitive comments over and over again, going nowhere.

Perhaps I'll bring in a hard rule and close the thread 48 hours after the race ends.

I think that would be fair.

Glad to see McLaren have lodged an appeal, they took their sweet time.

I saw Piastri’s comment regarding Helmet trying to make claims Weber was trying to talk to them about a move to RB. The boys got class :p

it wouldn’t be a week in F1 without some comments from Helmut!

I think this would be a shame. Whilst some threads decay, many others do not, and there are often things to discuss for some days afterwards. Also, not everyone gets the opportunity to watch live.

I think in general, they should be left open for a couple of weeks. Apart from anything else, I think if the threads don't contain the discussion from a particular race then we will simply see these arguments spill over into other threads more often.

Yeah I'm happy to move on once the thread is closed, save for meaningful updates if and when they crop up. I would say 48 hrs may be a little tight but also happy to try it and see how we get on.

We can always follow the stewards example and make the rules up as we go! (This is a joke before anyone asks)

Mclaren have taken it to right of review, so will see if thats accepted based upon the new camera angles now released. Unlikely but would be good for the title race and for anyone trying to fight Max, he might actually have to attempt to take the corners now.

Why? The rules aren't changing.

They'll argue Lando was ahead, Max pushed him wide during his "overtake" and deserves a penalty.

Lando won't get theirs removed as they overtook Max off the track, but if Max gets one too then Lando goes to 3rd.

If Max gets 5 seconds he will also drop behind Oscar to P5.

Can't see anything changing though, last I'm saying on this mess.

I believe they are claiming that Lando had already overtaken Max, so Max gets a penalty for forcing another driver off track and/or leaving the track and gaining an advantage and Lando gets nothing because he was forced off.

It’s worth a go. I didn’t even realise it showed Lando ahead in the timing screens in that screen grab someone posted. I bet there’s nothing concrete in the rules about when an overtake is complete :p

Good spot!!

Im assuming that is automated, so something triggered the timing screens showing Norris ahead.
