Mountain Biking

Have any MTB mags done their big hard tail tests yet this year? MBR do a hard tail of the year, but I suppose you'd need to look at the 2016 one. The good thing is £1k gets you on a nice hard tail.

Where can you use your voucher apart from Evans? I would at least have a look at Boardman as the £1k will go a lot further. I also am a fan of Evans' Pinnacle bikes for their value. I have a Pinnacle cyclocross bike and it is very well made. I've ridden it 4400km in a year and it takes so much abuse. I would be happy on a Pinnacle MTB too. For example:

More I look at the Boardman and read reviews the more I'm liking it. Will probably be a while until the voucher is delivered, but think I'll go for this. Great spec, and rides well and actually probably suits the majority of the my riding up on the downs.

Get a job at Halfords, the collegue discount is ace. Bought a Voodoo myself, compared to what it's going for now total bargain

Blunder, bought a conventional headset instead of semi integrated as I found out to my surprise when the cups loosely dropped into the head tube lol

Trip to Wales planned this weekend, looking forward to it as it's been a while.

Nant yr Arian on Saturday, somewhere I've not ridden before. Then a ride elsewhere in Dyfi on Sunday, probably Cli-machx or maybe a slog up Cadair Idris if the weather is on our side.

Damn, that's been like 2-3 weeks now since you've been out of cast?

I might grab one myself, though I've convinced myself it's going to be fine as soon as it's out of the cast.

I'm private, not currently living in the UK, so the healthcare is actually quite good. Sucks about the guitar! Something I keep meaning to get round to learning!

Maybe my one x-ray and lack of physio is down to the NHS then. :p

I actually found the first couple of days after getting the cast off were worse than having it on because there was no more support.

I guess you've just got to listen to your body and do what you can.

Oh I doubt it's much better, I've been three times to the docs (a good 30-40 minute drive) last time I got accused of not turning up for my previous appointments. Which were with the same doctor :p

Poor guy must be busy. Though he did tell me to not take any prescription pills, and any pain just to get drunk. Wouldn't get that advice on the NHS :D

I fully plan on being on the bike this Sunday! :)

Looking at going out riding this Sunday, but can't decide between the following places;

Cannock Chase - The Monkey Trail, Follow the Dog is just to boring/tame
Forrest of Dean - Probably the Freeminer Trail?
Sherwood Pines - Probably the Kitchener Trail?

Have ridden Cannock a few times now, the other two places I haven't been to yet. Does anyone have any comments/experiences with FoD and/or Sherwood Pines? Will be on a hardtail as well :D

FoD is great. Cannock is indeed boring after a few visits. I rarely go now. To be honest, FoD's blue trail is better than the red. The last descent of the blue is the best part of all the marked XC trails there IMO. But you should ride both red and blue. You can make a decent days riding out of 2 laps of red and blue tbh. If you've not been before, it won't be boring to do 2 laps.

Sherwood is literally the most boring pedal fest around! You even have to pedal downhill! Seriously if cannocks boring to you then take a pass on sherwood. Its for more fitness than anything

I'm contemplating changing my Shimano XT 2x11 to a 1x11, mainly to free up bar space and to give my simple mind less to think about when riding.

I'm eyeballing the Shimano 11-42t cassette but wondering if I need to replace both front chain rings or can I keep the large one?

Bike is a Canyon Spectral AL8.0 2016 if that's any help, any insight is much appreciated!

Cheers.

the 2x1 chainset will give you a rubbish chainline, you need a 1x chainset (or a 3x with just the middle ring) the 2x doesnt work well with 1x

oh also I have a m8000 xt chainset 1x jobby with chainring for sale :D and a 1x11 42t xt cassette as well :D:D

Do you need the uplift service if your only running the blue and red trails, or is it just for the downhill?

Can you not just put some spacers in to bring the chain line into the right position?
