Mountain Biking

13c and a light rain shower according to BBC. You've lived down south too long you big fairy!

Pikes and 35mm stem going on tomorrow...

So it's YOUR fault?!

Actually the forecast I have for Merthyr is light rain, which is still rubbish compared to the sunshine I had last two times.

It's Jacques' fault (you've not met him yet)
Every, single, blinking , time I go on an uplift with him, the heavens open. I go to France with him, it rains the entire week

I have met Jaques I think, first time I went to BPW and he was on a Shan, if memory is reliable.

Honestly if my arm holds up enough for me to ride more than just the blue trails, I barely care what the weather does. Things are conspiring against me this week, my rear brake failed at the weekend when trying to bleed it (leaking through piston, new one should arrive today) but the determination remains strong!

I was sold on the idea that Scotland is pure gnar, made for angry men who can grow beards n stuff...now you show me wonky pavements!

In the feasibility study they found the location suited perfectly to English tourists that were too intimidated by the wilds of the Cairngorms and needed somewhere to warm up.

Whoever told you that was lying!
It's pan flat up here and all the trails are smooth tarmac. In fact, the only MTB tyres that any of the shops here stock are Big Apples.

It's probably the worst place in the world for riding, you certainly shouldnt waste your time coming anywhere near.

Welcome to the world of trail centres, where people in Wales are complaining they can't ride the black trails at BPW because they are "too hard".. Morons

I'm fleeing as far as possible from Scotland as I physically can :) (seriously...got some great news this morning...I'm.nearly outta here!)

Awesome! Any date yet? Quite jealous, applied for a job there a few years back. Pretty much denied on the spot.

No, no date yet. I’m waiting for the poo to hit the fan, because it all feels a bit too smooth right about now… as good luck seems to be following me at the moment (please please please let me now not spangle myself on the bike for saying that)

My whole emigration is a very long winded story, full of dreams and setbacks. Been told no a fair few times in the last years (in that I do not qualify to go), but things have ramped up of late. My skills were assessed in record time (usually a few months, but was about 2 weeks), I have been invited to apply within record time (expression of interest usually takes a few months to be approved, mine took less than a week!). This means that my actual application and visa could be done in 3 months!

Even had the good fortune to stumble upon a lot of money I never knew I had (old accountants were morons), and was able to just secure the highest paying job I’ve ever had to see me out until I leave. I’m buzzing right now, but also looking around waiting for that bus to take a corner and take me out :p

I don’t think I can stand another winter Christmas (sorry, I know your way is the “right” way, but I find it awfully depressing), so I reckon I’ll be gone over that period.

Out of interest, what is it that you do specifically (was in RAF or army wasn't it?) .. because job sponsored isn't the only way to get in.

Wow, that is a good turn of luck there! But then luck is earned and not given. Do you have a job lined up then? Your going through the job sponsored route?

O I agree, I too find it depressing. (though mostly the Christmas thing, than winter) Generally work through it, and no plans to return for it this year when I can have some sunshine instead.

RAF, I applied for their RAF (RAAF) on the off chance they were looking for people. Which they do now and then. It'd be ideal really, I'd walk into the exact same job and on more money.
