Thankfully the forecast is *currently* sunny on thursday and friday and then cloudy saturday, so after it's rained for the first 2-3 days... it'll hopefully have dried a little for the weekend

Get a cassette expander, unless your buying a new drivetrain anyway then 1x11 now makes sense.
Unless my maths are wrong it works out just under £300 on bike-discount. I presume, crankset, chain, cassette, rear mech, and shifter...

Race face cranks, nw 32 rf ring, slx mech and shifter with hope expander and zee brakes. Doubt I'll upgrade for a long time, though I do fancy some carbon cranks.. 1*11 is at a pretty nice price point now, I'd be tempted if going for a new bike.
Is it not cheaper for you to buy the full bike from bird, rather than building?
Nope. £2500 for the M8000 build. Plus I'd rather spec different parts than what they offer.
Think it's going to be 1x11. Brake, bars, stem I'm unsure of.
Forks are ready (160mm DP Pikes). For £350 I'll certainly give them a go.

So apart from the obvious of being able to ride on sand relatively easily... did you actually enjoy the rest of the aspects of how it rode?
I'm still struggling to be convinved by fat bikes as anything other than a bit of a gimmick. (and some of them have lol-worthy price tags!)

Cheers. it's a similar spec I was going for.. Can't decide between Renthal or the RF bars.
Wheels will be Superstar Ultra Hubs on their Tech4 EX23 rims (bought a Ultra wheelset last xmas for cheap but havent used them, will send them back to get restrung to the 650B EX23 rims, if superstar ever bloody reply to me!)
I was actually really surprised how easy it was to ride. I expected it to be good in sand and mud but I didnt expect it to roll so well on roads and other hard surfaces.
It's certainly not a gimmick, it's a legitimate choice for a good comfortable long-distance tourer. We covered around 150 miles over 2 days and it didnt feel like it was any more taxing to ride than my 29er hardtail. I'm sure it has other uses too, the amount of grip it has is incredible (not surprising) and it would probably be a lot of fun on singletrack stuff.
Having said that, I probably wont be buying one.
Yeah I have been thinking about this place, also had Bucknell and Hopton on the radar. Bucknell potentially has an uplift available as well
