MSI gtx 670 Power edition "none oc" edition owners thread

THose are great clocks, only managing to get mine to 1160 stable, still happy with that though.. Haven't played with the mem clock yet. :D

Yea pretty chuffed to be honest.

3500 on mem stable on both mine, although I've backed them down to 3450Mhz as heard its not good to run memory to the brink. Still near enough to 7ghz which is 7 series territory. Epic deals really, especially with the free games.:D

Quick question is anyone using EVGA Precision X for overclocking these?

I have read on an overclocking guide that Afterburner cause driver crashes, i had this problem and thought it was due to instability of the OC not caused by Afterburner itself..

Can anyone shed some light on this, is it worth trying Precision X? :D

I always use Precision X as I have had issues with afterburner with a number of Nvidia cards. I also prefer the way Precision X works and it looks better too.

Oh thanks for that..

You think i'll get a better OC with it? As the driver crash was the only reason i stopped pushing. (not worried just wondering)

Off tpoic a bit- My boots up at 100% ( i assume) fan speed until afterburner fires up (then drops it to 30% as set). Is there a BIOS command to have it run a less on start up? :D

No idea if you will get a better clock but I have found precision to be more stable. Crashes I had with Afterburner did not happen on Precision.

Although saying that I have never really seen any ingame benefits overclocking a gpu only benchmarks that show a result.

They spin backwards when you power up to stop dust build up. They then slow down and spin normal after around 20 seconds or so. Not sure you can disable it tbh.

Decrease crashing is good news, i hope its the same for me..

To be honest that's the only reason im doing it, Benchmarks.. Just want to see what i can achieve, will probaly run it at a mild overclock for 24/7 use.

I did a sleeping dogs bench at stock and one at my current OC (1160/1550) and the difference was 2.4 FPS, which is around 5-6%.. So barely noticable.. :D

Ohh, it said something about that on the Box. As i need to install Afterburner anyway (to install Precision X) ill see if that's the case.. :D

Great to see a thread on this !!

Following the master overclocking guide now, current overclock is:

1215mhz core
1502mhz ram (default)

Does this sound right ? I overclocked using MSI afterburner, got core volts and power limit maxed, custom fan profile, core clock + 130, temp is 65 load in heaven benchmark.

Been pushing the sliders up.

Now at a stable 1215mhz core and 1749mhz memory (~'7ghz'), I reach 68c Max Load on unigine heaven benchmark

Ran the unigine heaven benchmark ok at 2560x1600, everything set to the total max got 25.5fps and a score of 642, this is with ivy bridge i7 at 4500mhz, 32gb 933mhz ram.

Going to run 3d mark 11 and report back now

EDIT: 3D mark 11 score of 9815:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7073573?

Is all this any good? about right ??

That looks cracking mate.

1750 mem core is a great achievement..

:D

Update on my ocing, BF3 did not like the memory overclock at all, so back to stock on the memory. Still a nice max boost of 1175 on the core though.

Good point, my memory is running 1749mhz just fine, benches fine, been playing crysis 3 for an hour or so and no probs at all.

I imagine BF3 it wouldnt like the mem overclock, it didnt on my old 7850. WHY does BF3 do this? I dont understand if the clock is stable, I think its EA forcing instability on purpose for some weird reason.

forced instability - come off it

its just not stable - just some games use the GPU differently than others

for instance I can be 20 mins + Furmark Stable, yet get glitches in Far Cry 3 - wheras lots of other games are fine at same overclock

Guy, Question which i really should know the answer too but what is my Core clock speed? (look at image below)

at5u.png

What throws me is GPU-Z gives me 1162 and Heaven says 1287..

All i used was Precision X this +85 Cores (915 stock) Taking it to 1000Mhz core.. Assumed the boost took it too 1162 but where has this 1287 came from?

.....And hit 1750 mem (7000mhz effective). :D.. This was me trying 7100. :D

Heaven is wrong. Ignore it.

Tested my 2nd 670 (non OC) last night and is a slightly better clocker than the 1st. this one is stable at 1296MHz (Last 1280MHz) so both my £161 Non OC cards are great overclockers. Not sure if that's a coincidence or what. Scored 890 in heaven 4.0, which is fairly high, up there with the 680's

Weird. What system do you have? I just scored 917 with a core boost of 1175mhz and mem + 300mhz offset ( using 1080p extreme 8xaa, same as in heaven 4.0 bench thread)

Ofcourse my non overclocked version was delivered today and lo and behold, it performs/overclocks better than my overclocked edition

Interestingly, the non oc version i got today runs quite a bit hotte than the OC edition (5 degrees or so)

Just had a go at overclocking now. The boost feature is pretty confusing but managed to work it out. :D

Was aiming for 1200 core but that was a long shot..

The highest i've managed to get is 1160/1550 which isn't too bad atall.. Im happy. Though only a 5% increase in FPS from my sleeping dogs stock bench. Ohh well.. :D

Some of you should do some sleeping dogs benching in Kapp's thread if you have it..

Only 2 670's in there so far and im one of them (the highest) :D

Ok my results are up on that topic. Not as good as yours but then i didnt overclock. I think sleeping dog likes high speeds on the cpus tho cos ive noticed since ours are similar but you have a high oc on ur cpu compared to mine i wonder if that is why you have a much nicer result tho yes u have a oc on the gpu as well but i wonder if thats mainly from the cpu tho?

About boost scores in heaven and such. If you overclock the boost might go up too and guessing what it might be if u oc might be random. I duno tho cos i dont oc yet but im guessing if i put the core up to be 1000 my boost might go to 1200 or 1190 :/ Duno. Also remember its app dependant i.e it could boost to 1150 in say a benchmarking tool and when gaming just go to 1100 or 1000 :/ I think?

You may be right, take a look at this:

20. Score 48.6, GPU 670 @1162/1552, CPU 2500k @4.5 Doomedspeed
21. Score 45.5, GPU 780M @980/1500, CPU 4700MQ @3.2 oweneades
22. Score 42.8, GPU 680 @1019/1502, CPU 3930k @4.6 Quuwahi
23. Score 42.4, GPU 7950 @960/1250, CPU 2500k @3.3 Orangey
24. Score 41.2, GPU 670 @1134/1553, CPU 2500k @4.0 MeatLoaf

The only difference between me and meatloaf id 28mhz on the Core and 500Mhz on the CPU and get 7.4 more FPS than him..

Those 500Mhz must be doing something good. :D

Skeet, Have you got a good enough cooler to get your 3570k higher? :D

Heaven is wrong. Ignore it.

Thanks for that,

Is anyone elses wrong too? Becuase i looked in the Heaven Bench thread and theres all seem to be correct.

Yeah watercooling with a antec h20 620. But cba to mess about with stability so i just knew 4ghz would work so upped the thing to get that to happen and just saved the bios then quit. :p Never had a issue in gaming so stable :D If i went more i could probably i think get around 4.5ghz if i tried or 4.3-4.4 with more certainty i think. But then i gotta think about volts and adjustments to get there and stable and i cba. Maybe next year when games come out that might make me want more from my cpu?

Haha! So lazy..

I'ts not hard really. I know people say work up from the base but that takes time i pick a safe voltage and work around. Like with mine i went straight in at 4.5Ghz with 1.3V, Luckily that's perfect as 1.28 crashes. :)

Just had to fiddle with the LLC and that was that. :)

4.7 Took a bit more fiddling. :D
