MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

One, try four ;)

Do want.

8 pack, tell gibbo to get as much stock as possible :p

To put its size into context, those outter fans are the same size as the fans on the tfiv coolers on the last gen, those cards were a good 12" long...it's probably longer then a 7990.

That is pretty awesome, means it could be temp stuck on a uni block while ek get stock ready. I take it msi are now officially 'cool' with cooler removal then?

Are we going to find out what happened on the 7th neliz now that the red mist has cleared? Many are pointing to shortage of hynix & Samsung IC's.

You basically have a lot of rights in that regard in Europe already. for RMA we only ask that the original cooler is placed on it and there is no damage. Damage = void warranty. We know that people want liquid cooled setups, especially on a Lightning, so in that regard it can be a temporary solution for some and a permanent solution for others.. and a LN2 solution, of course :p

The first teaser was "aired" on July 8th, but a lot of people assumed August 7th and linked a launch date to it. I'm pretty sure I wrote on overclockers.net that we would launch AN overclocking product on that date, but assumption is the mother of all F'ups and maybe I should've said "hold your horses" somewhere.. but it was just a misinterpretation.

This actually started all the way back @ Computex with the first videocardz.com article: http://videocardz.com/42549/msi-teasing-geforce-gtx-780-lightning-at-computex

Barry doesn't work at Product Marketing, nor was he aware of the the Thermal Design, yet everyone ran with the story. No verification, just write down an unchecked fact, post it on a popular website and it becomes a "truth."

That's why I never called our cooler "Twin Frozr V" anywhere, just "new Thermal Design"

So, no memory shortage, no last minute hardware changes, it was never supposed to launch on the 7th.

Well that clears that up :)

That's great news about the cooler, I knew msi were 'ok' with it but I had been hearing recent reports of void if removed stickers being placed on some msi cards.

Tbh everything did point to a lightning rather then hawk release on that day, which as you say is where all the assumptions came from.

The stickers are there simply because you can "force" warranty this way in, for instance, Asia.

"That day" only exists if you're using month/day/year, but yeah, a lesson learned.

Its funny how misunderstandings have cost msi a lot of business i know quit a few people have bought the classified, i know there is mystique in controlling information but if those people had been told that date was a sham they would have waited.
the hype has been going on for weeks surely msi could have quelled that rumour easily enough and made it clear to people.
