MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

20 phase all in all, impressive, this card is going to cripple my hx1000 with all that power, time to invest in an antec hc 1200 me thinks.

The classy is only something like 14phase, I think we'll be seeing 2ghz out of these.

To put its size into context, those outter fans are the same size as the fans on the tfiv coolers on the last gen, those cards were a good 12" long...it's probably longer then a 7990.

Is that an assumption or a fact? the 780 Lightning isn't really longer than the 680 Lightning, so who's saying that the fans are that size?

You can have 50 phases but you will be limited by the GPU. I'll be interested to see what happens when overclocking these cards.

*drools*

Looks like ELPIDA memory. Surprising they would put that on a 780 instead of Hynix or the new Samsung memory thats on the 770's.

Neliz said over at OCN its a mix of Samsung AND Elpida. I don't care what it is aslong as it overclocks like a mofo! Plenty Elpidacards are overclocking high!

Any rough estimation as to how much a block will set us back? £120?

I'd rather have the new Samsung 1750mhz chips i think. Elpida is definitely the cheapest/worst clocking of the three. Its on a lot of 7950's as well unfortunately including mine.

I hear ya! Does your memory oc bad on the 7950s you have?

The memory on my 670s were Hynix and I could ramp the clocks right up on them.

My hynix memory did 1925, my elpida does about 1650-1700 and i seem to have some of the best clocking elpida ram. I know others that can't go over 1350 without increasing voltage. Like for like Elpida is slower as well, only by a few percent but its still not ideal. Hynix ftw tbh.

Just an educated guess, if this means the outer fans aren't 10cm, then they're 92mm, making the center fan 72/80mm, which in turn would drop card length.

My measuring logic: if it's 100+100+92mm, is 292mm excluding gaps and cooler casing, so we can safely throw another 40-60mm to cover those areas. So for a rough guess looking at the presumed dimensions (I couldn't see any on packaging, nor a mention of fan size) that's around 330-350mm in length which = around 13.5", probably slightly less.

Now if we presume I'm completely wrong and the fans are indeed smaller, then it should tip in at around 12.5 - 12.75"

Am I close? :p

Fingers crossed I bag a lightning with Hynix/Samsung then! You getting one mate or staying with the red team? I'm hoping we hear info on the 9970 before I purchase a lightning.

Fairly sure elpida is tighter then both hynix and Samsung, once it clocks up it should be more efficient, better efficiency = better scores. Even if this means losing a little on speed.

Think my first 7970 lightning had sammy ic's and would bench 1975 without correction.

Yeah keep those fingers crossed mate! Still even Elpida will be good on a gpu like that i reckon. They might have improved it since then.

I won't be upgrading for a while only just got this setup. Unless i win the lottery of course. :D

Check this out. Someone benched Elpida vs Hynix, Elpida came out a few percent slower.

Exactly, think we can see where this card is targeted, they should have put more effort into the cooler IMO.

In fairness they do have the Twin Frozzer card for the masses and that is quieter than reference nut no better if your PC lives in a closed case.

let's hope they got some Samsung memory for these unlike the TF !

it's basically the same length as the previous lightning, too lazy to host a picture though :/

One, try four ;)

Do want.

8 pack, tell gibbo to get as much stock as possible :p

Gibbo will be getting plenty of stock for sure.
