MSI: *Offical* N460GTX Hawk 1GB OC Edition thread

Well the honeymoon period is over and i am thinking of returning or selling the card :(

while 900 core is nice the fans are noisy as hell and extremely annoying

even tho temps are good 69c max during gaming the fan still spins up to around 77-82%
and at idle the fan is at 54% and you can clearly hear it

maybe i can replace the fans with something else

:(

Sorry to hear that.

The idle at 54% sounds a little strange. Mine idles at 40% and 26/30C (though pretty nippy up here in my part of Scotland). And the fans spinning up to 80%+ seems a little odd as well.

I wonder if there's something up with the cooler on your card?

I'm only running mine at 860MHz (don't think I have the best core but happy with that) but Kombuster only hits 56C after 20 mins and fan at around 65% (case open). In games (COD4/Witcher/FAllout 3 Assasin'S Creed 2) max temp is around 57/58C (case closed). Though ambient temp obviously plays it's part here. I find that below 65%, other than the "whoosh" of air, I can't hear the fans at all, even with the case open.

Though just checked my testing notes (sad I know ... anal I am!?). OCCT did hit 69C and fan was at 78% and my comment is "just starting to get audible". Surprised to see you hitting these temps in games though? Though your OC is slightly higher than mine, but I would not have thought it would make that much difference!?

PS. How's the airflow in your case?

Robgmun.... how you getting on.

i set the fan to manual 50% idle and load and i cant hear it over the other case fans

and temps seem ok as well only reached a max of 63c after a quick vantage and metro 2033 run

ill just keep it at 50%

I had a quick spin of OCCT at stock and the temp never went above 61C.

But i'm a little worried, last night i had 2 blue screens and 2 unexpected restarts (i wasn't doing anything unusual just browsing the web)

Althrough on my system having a unexpected restart is not unsual (i have a 2-3 per week) having 4 in one evening is a little much, so i unpdated my drivers for my 680sli motherboard this morning. Unfortunatly i had 2 more restarts today.

What i will do is to a rebuild of my pc and test it again, if i have more restarts then i will RMA it. :(

O'dear... I do seem to remember reading somewhere that some folks have had problems with the 460 / latest Nvidia drivers / certain mobos. But you can obviously never be sure what the real problem is from just reading someone's comments etc.

I think there are supposed to be new Nvidia graphics drivers sometime this month, so they may help some folks. Though obviously if you wish to return under Distance Selling regs, then you are on borrowed time (so to speak).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

PS. From the noise my PSU was making from a cold start this morning!!!! I suspect that's my next purchase. Life...

Seems a touch better now, i only had one blue screen, but that was due to something goig on with the CPU, in all i'm convinced the card is fine and it's the motherboard that's causing the problem

yep stock volts. im only really using this for seti@home so when ive looked into the power used when overclocking, ill give it some more juice.

meh, that's one step too far. The current one can be overclocked to that with out any problems

Tend to agree. I think the expression is "milking it". But can't say I blame MSI for trying to expand the range as far as possible.

I'm still looking for that MSI 460 with liquid Nitrogen cooling. Maybe then the magic 1GHz will become a usable reality. :D
