MSI's X570 Tomahawk May Become Go-To OC Board??

Do you need the upgrade?
Can you afford the upgrade?
Does the upgrade provide a substantial performance increase or allow you access to required features?

I'd imagine AMD will release X670 alongside Zen3 but I can't imagine it being much more feature rich than X570.

If you don't need a new mb or cpu I'd wait.

I do need an upgrade. I'm still rocking an i5 2500k and its struggling in some games now.

So yeah definite performance increase.

I've waited this long however so a few more months wont hurt if x670 will have some nice new features that will future proof me a bit longer. I like to get the most out of my tech as you can see.

Yeah good one, smart arse. Obviously already Googled it but most info is speculation from 2019.

Oh yes, obviously from your post you did... clear as mud. :p

I recently made the exact same jump, an i5 2500k to R5 3600. The leap is huge but do not make the mistake of cheaping out on a cheaper first gen Ryzen or Zen+.

My reasoning for ordering this board is it has all the bells and whistles, seems very future proof for my needs and will facilitate a future Zen3 CPU upgrade. Currently I'm absolutely over the moon with the 3600 and I plan for this system to see me through the next 6-8 years with the odd GPU upgrade down the line.

Buy or wait, you really can't go wrong.

Ok got my x570 Tomahawk with my 3900X installed and running.
Does all core, 4.5 GHz at 1.35volts :)
Didnt push any further as no need.... ok maybe tomorrow :)

Thanks for all the info, good to know you were in the same boat as me and have seen a huge increase in performance.

I think I might just pull the trigger on this too then :D

Literally the only Issue i have had is the fact that the Fan headers are all at the bottom of the board.

I had to get that niggly to find issue.

I wonder why MSI released the MEG and Tomahawk so late. Are they an attempt to salvage the brand's reputation from the critical reception a lot of their non-flagship x570 boards recieved, so people will be more open to their X670 offerings? Are they the basis for X670, which looks more likely to be a refinement of X570 without offering any major new features, if it comes at all? Great board, but it's almost time for Zen 3, very odd.

That's the reason they gave in their refreshingly honest "Return to Honour" ad. Though it also works as hype for X670, at least for me: They're almost guranteed not repeat the same VRM mistakes again, so i'm intrigued by what they do with X670 Tomahawk and MEG Unify.

X670 will if anything just be a minor refresh with more connectivity (more m2 and USB-C ports etc)... if you get an X570 you are still fine for the lifecycle of Zen3.

I originally thought perhaps waiting for Zen 4, as my 1700 performs well enough, but i'm worried about RAM compatibility issues with DDR5. RAM was a pain in first gen. Ryzen, though I wonder with Ryzen being a more mature system now that may not be such a major issue. I was not building PCs back during the transition from DDR3 to DDR4 so i don't know how that went down.

It is quite certain that they released the almost perfect x570 in response to the utter ***** low level boards they first released, they even said as much in the advertising, and indeed, asked hardware unboxed for feedback, took it onboard, and brought to market an absolutely wonderful product.
I for one am v glad they did.
