Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Uh... just opened the box for the below from HobbyKing

1x #9052000065-3/6478 IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells (GENUINE) = $36.99

Came with a 3 Pin American plug... the charger is rated 100-240AC so can I just lop it off and throw on a UK plug and if so what fuse should I put in?

Lopped it off any way and replaced... have a 5 amp fuse in the replacement plug and it works just fine.

Keeping the screen size down masks the low resolution well. Putting a 640x480 image through a screen like the Rift would look pixelated.

Think I'd be fine with that. More immersion overall and no loss in detail.

Re: finger cuts. Been there done that. Hurt a lot when I did it.

There is the HobbyKing DIY goggles that use a 5" or so screen that will give a much bigger image.

Had a particularly dodgy landing over the weekend and flew my quad into my knee. Did no damage thankfully :). I do know of another member on here who forgot to take his props off when setting up his FCB and one of them spun and jumped up and hit his nipple :p

Yeh one of the guys I met had one of those but I didn't look to try it. Definitely open to the idea now that I've seen you can actually get them from ebay in the UK for the same sort of price as from Hobbyking International. Need to look into receiver/transmitter etc now, I'm wary about having to spend a lot of time perfectly matching equipment if I don't buy an all in one set :p

Thats exactly the same conclusion I came too. I thought they would be cheap and simple, but then when you add a battery, and receiver, and transmitter, and camera, and power supply on the quad, and hope it all works, and cut the DIT frame to your face, etc, etc, etc I decided it was easier to buy a complete kit I know works.

Or at least thats what I will do, one day :p

Hmmmm.

I *might* just have bought one of these £33. Bargain.

Will be interested to see if...

a) its carbon fibre all the way though
b) what the finish is like. If it's as good as the current crop of 250 sized quads, I'll be happy.
c) how much more fun it is to fly crash than the quad

Well, I'm suitably impressed by DHL and Foxtech. Ordered this on Thursday 11th at 15:30 ish. Arrived on my desk today. From China.

Had a sneaky peak and it doesn't look quite as well cut as the 250 ones that are doing the rounds currently but will reserve absolute judgement until I have screwed it all together.

Build is gong to be with Sunnysky 2304 2300kv, 5040 props, Emax SimonSeries 12A ESC's, FrSky DR4II or VF8R, MinimOSD, Sony FPV Cam and some sort of video TX. I have a spare on kicking around somewhere but I think it might be dead.

Not sure about batteries yet. That will depend on AUW and that in itself will depend on which FC I use. I have a spare acro naze32 and I also have a Xaircraft superX as well that does GPS fabulously well. It weighs getting on for 200g though! I'll also have to shell out £70 to get it upgraded to handle hex layout.

Decisions......

A hex running 5040s? Are you planning on lifting small children! :p

That's gonna go like stink :D

Nope, and yes, that's the plan :)

Had a look at the frame tonight, it's actually ok. not sure where I'm gonna put the naze if I use it as it doesn't have holes pre-drilled for it. Might just pop it on a sticky pad.

Photos tomorrow when I've screwed it together.

Spent tonight trying to get my fpv transmitter to work. It used to, before the last major prang. Now it just doesn't want to stay on any frequency in particular. Balls.

Argh!, My Sony 600tvl arrived today but it's 12v and I'm running 4s batteries so I need something to drop my voltage down to 12v. What do I need? A ubec?

This is cheap and they are supposed to be excellent. I have a 5v stepdown one and it's tiny!

Thanks again, I just took a look at a local store and they have something similar for 99p. First link in google. I'll go and get that tomorrow so I can fit it after work if it's what I need....hate waiting for the postman :D

Gandhi, my FCB is mounted on sticky fixers and seems to be fine. It's survived a number of full bore crashes, including a head on argument with a Scrum machine that saw the quad shed everything and crack the carbon frame!

That's the bare IC, it will need supporting components in order to output 5v by the looks of it
