Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Seagulls are really intelligent and have excellent eyesight. If they attack the phantom, it's not because they mistake it for a bird, it's because they are complete **** heads.

Ive had a couple come in for a look at mine, but they have never actually bothered about it too much.

Haha. Had one earlier who was circling and chirping and within 30 seconds a bunch of his mates arrived for a look as well.

Had loads of sparrows (or swifts, I'm no bird watcher) circling it the other day as well though less worried about them as they're tiny.

Coming from the S1000 it was never an issue using that :p

i'm running a vortex 250 pro with race kit stage 1 and white pimp kit.
using dal tri 5045bn props. would changing out the stock motors that i think are rebranded cobras 2204.2300 for dys 2204 /2300 race edition motors make a difference.
anyone.

The DYS motors are 2205 and have a bit more torque than the cobras as a result, but they are very amp hungry beasts. You'd get more benefit moving to 4s if you haven't already.

Other than that, the 2205's are around 15% more thrust than the cobras I think, on 4s at least.

Have a look here and here

EDIT: forgot the cobras are actually 2205 anyways. Whoopsie!

Hahaha!!! Triggers DJI Phantom....lol. :p

I wasn't sure what way to go. Thought about getting an XK380 Detect at half the price as it's also an excellent camera bird. But after sitting watching some Phantom vids on YouTube last night I finally pulled the trigger and went for one. The Standard model seems to be excellent value, albeit with no Lightbridge. Are there any Phantom 3 owners here?

Interestingly, I also considered a Walkera Runner Advanced GPS which of course is a different ball game altogether compared to a Phantom. I think I might pick up an FPV racer type bird at some point to play with as it looks like top fun! Maybe something inexpensive from Banggood or Hobbyking.

The Phantom should be a good upgrade from my Syma X8.

I have a 250 racer, the falcon from banggood, good value bit you'll want spares etc...

They've just released a new 210 actually on banggood which looks promising.

Guys, I had a set of Night Lions Tech motors arrive today and fitted them to my X8C this morning. Span them up a bit to check they were working and all was well. Sounded really smooth compared to the X8G motors I had in there previously. Took off and hovered for a minute or so and she flew perfectly. Anyway, had things to do so I decided I'd break the motors in later this afternoon.

Got the quad back out and went to break the motors in. Switched on quad and Tx and bound and upon applying power, only three motors spun. Front right refused to do so. Thought it could maybe be a loose connection when I assembled it so stripped the quad down and had a look. Could see nothing obvious. So I swapped out one of the good motors for the non spinning one. The swap resulted in the motor which originally wasn't working, now worked. But the motor which I swapped it over to now didn't work. Swapped out all 4 motors with a fresh set of X8G ones and still the same - no mater which motor you put in the front right position, it doesn't spin. But take the same motor out and put it elsewhere on the quad and it works fine.

Any ideas? Very strange, as it flew perfectly earlier this morning after the motor swap but now I'm faced with this. :(

Sounds like the ESC on that arm has burned out. I'm guessing it's all on one board though in that quad rather than separate ESCs so you'll be looking at at a new board.

Planning on buying the DJI Phantom 3 Standard edition as I want to get into drone photography/videography.

Before I pull the trigger, are there any other similar drones, that offer similar specs that are cheaper?

Could be worth looking at a phantom 2 with a gopro. Should be able to get one set up for about the same price and will give better image quality than the 3 standard imo.

I've just bought a Phantom 3 Standard, it arrived on Thursday. I'm utterly blown away by this thing, it's just amazing and for the price I don't think you can beat it. I looked at an XK380 Detect as an option as it was much cheaper but although they are good, I decided to push the budget a bit and get the P3. The image quality from the 2.7K camera is top notch and the P3 flys beautifully. Coming from a Syma X8C the difference is startling. I did have a disaster with it yesterday though which I'll post about shortly. Let's just say that if you do decide to pick a P3 up, stick with beginner mode and watch the video tutorials first !

I almost lost it completely, real heart stopping moment. Crashed into a tree on the other side of a canal and dropped from about 60 feet up down through the branches. 3 ft further to the right and it would have been in the canal. Had to drive for 3 miles, park up, find a way into the farmers fields on the other side of the canal to access it then jog for 4 miles through the fields to the side of the canal itself. All under pressure as the battery was running out on my iPhone and I was in danger of losing the GPS so I could see where it was sitting on the map screen. I've only had it two days and this was my first proper flight! Lesson learned, stay in Beginner Mode for now and don't try any of the Smart Navigation modes like 'Follow Me' until you have mastered the basics. ;)

Defo take it easy for the interim....also keep it in line of site so you know where it is.

I got cheeky with my 250 the other day flying under cross bars and took one a bit too close to it.....POW! :P
