Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Got home from work at 7am. The sun was out, its 100 degrees (well it seemed like it), blue sky, and a slight breeze...........so it must be Mavic time.

I walked about 2 miles and started flying. BUT i forgot to check all my settings after the recent firmware update, and they were set to default :(

So the best of the pics I took (all jpg's), this was probably the best. Touched up slightly in Lightroom.

Btw Yas - try using the histogram. It tells you if the image is too bright ;)

A nice day for a change yesterday so got to the park early before work

Nice flying ArchAnGel :) What goggles are you using? I need something smaller than the Quanum v2s I have, as they are making impromptu flying more difficult than it needs to be. Tried Fatshark Predators (an older model IIRC) and was less than impressed

Fatshark Dominator V3's with True-D V3 receiver
I got them second hand (£200 without receiver) as they are expensive new for what they are. I was going from EV800's so was worried about losing immersion but honestly have never looked back
DVR has come in handy when I have bust my HD cam in the past. Also useful in a lost quad situation. I like having the HDMI as well to play sims on the PC
Would like to try some HD2's or HD3's to see if they are worth paying extra for

So if Fatshark, noting less than dominator/attitudes really
My mate has ordered some Aomway commanders so I am interested to compare

But always best to try before you buy with goggles

That's often difficult in this hobby :p I rarely fly with others as I generally don't know when and where I will be free, so it's spur of the moment. The guys I occasionally see all have predators and think they are the nuts, but they just don't cut it picture wise for me

Just be really careful on Sports mode. You will need a wide open space, as all the flying aids are turned off. With a little bit of favourable wind it'll be flying at twice the speed under GPS mode.

So in SPORT mode, is it like RATE mode on a racer? i.e no self righting etc?

Nice flying :) Whats the setup? I tihnk to make mine any better I need to upgrade my ESCs.

As for goggles, I have the eachine VRD2s, they're okay (enough) for me...Would love to have a tenfold better picture quality though.

My drone flying has seriously hampered as my boy grows up, he is petrified of it. He just sees it and he's hugging my legs saying he's scared! (he's 2!). It's gathering dust - not sure how to get him used to it, I'm taking it to France next month when we go stay with the inlaws, should get some good shots.

Try dialling down the exposure more - I have mine bound to the right jog dial on the front of the controller (other one works the gimbal) so it is nice and easy. Shooting into or away from the sun is pretty easy - it is when the sun is going across the lens at an acute angle that you can get the washed out look, but a lens hood soon solves that. The hood isn't so good for video though, as depending on which one you get it may well come into the camera frame if you're manoeuvring hard with the Mavic.

I've dialled the exposure down quite a bit as it is.

Yes I have noticed with the lens hood of I'm shorting video it gets in the way. Will try and use it for pics rather than video.

Have been using the histogram but seems like no matter what I do it comes up too bright.

If I get a chance to shoot this weekend then I'll post some pics and video. Maybe one of you guys can tell me where I'm going wrong.

On another note, my filters are out of stock so that's the reason why it's taking so long to get to me. Been told they should be back in stock in the next week or so.

Bought a couple of white strobeon leds so when I get them I'll be attaching them to my mavic.

My son is 3 and is terrified of the Inspire but likes the smaller ones. He tried to "get" them though so I have to make sure I don't get too close to the ground.

My daughter is terrified of them too, don't blame her. These are essentially flying power tools with a primate in control, regardless of size :D

:) Whats the setup?

Race Frog 218mm Frame (pretty new. really like it)
Diatone Dlink F3 flight controller
Diatons SP2 VTX
Runcam Swift 2
XSR receiver
King Kong 2205 2300KV motors (I cheaped out on this build after replacing a lot of £15 motors on other quads. Pretty happy with them)
TBS Triumph Stub antenna
HQ 5x4.5x3 V3 props
Go Pro Session 4

Awesome, maybe one day I'll get similar haha

The king kong motors are decent for the money, apparently they're a bit noisier than more expensive brands but nevermind..... I have the Rave Star 2205s, seem alright also for the money

Forgot the ESC's and Battery
Little Bee Spring Bee 30A Dhsot
Tattu 4S 1300 75C

My other quad has EMAX RS2205 2300 Red bottoms and my "lost quad" has the "S" versions. Good motor's no doubt but I can't say I notice much difference at my skill level and I crash a lot, usually into the hardest thing I can find.
I am tempted by some cobra CP2407's but no rush
My mate has Racerstar 2205 2600's on his race frog and they seem pretty good

Fully addicted to the Aurora 100, it's so much fun :D

Full speed smash into a wooden fence. I gapped it at full speed twice and then I decided to try recording on the DVR...

Can I ask where you lot fly? I mean do you have somewhere that's drone friendly (Club etc) or do you fly in the a local park or even a farmers field?

I really want to start fly but I'm worried about hitting someone of something while learning.
