Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I'm looking into getting one for my mavic. have heard good things about them but they are pricey.

I don't mean a tracker, I mean a Trackr.

I did review them and they're generally pretty poor, but I guess if it even remotely increases your chances of finding a lost drone, it could be worth it. At the same time, I'm not sure I want to glue one to the Mavic...

If there's anything magnetic in that device and you attach it to the Mavic then you're essentially guaranteeing that you'll need to use it!

Not that I know of.

I downloaded an app called 'Drone Zones' which allows users to submit areas they like to fly in and rate them for different things like scenery or learning to fly areas. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be working at the moment.

I'm in Barnet with a day off and dry weather, can anyone suggest some places to go?

**EDIT** I also read this morning that I cannot fly with 50m of another person, or 150m of a gathering. I'm surprised no-one moaned at me when they saw my first flight video :) Does everyone follow this to the letter? If go somewhere remote, but someone is there, do you not fly? Do you ask the person if they mind? Do you just fly anyway?

I try to follow the code as far as is possible - it is there for safety and not to prevent you having fun. If you just want to loon around and have fun then there are normally plenty of places you can do that. If you're trying to navigate to a specific spot for photography, which I normally am, I find it a little more tricky and definitely need to plan the right take off point and navigation to where I want to be.

My last few flights have been in my backyard and so far my neighbours haven't complained but rather they are mystified by it lol.

But when I've been out to a wide open place, I always have a look round to see if there are any people. If there are I ask them if it's ok for me fly my drone as I'll be flying over them and possibly taking video and pics. So far no one has kicked off at me and are quite happy to watch me fly my drone.

But I don't just take off and whizz around without checking my surroundings.

Didn't you get a copy of the drone code with your mavic? It should have been in the box ;)

You're right. The specifics of 50m and 150m are a little small and just hadn't noticed.

It looks like for the 50m it's a literal 50m, so if I'm 60m high, I'm fine. For crowds/built up areas it appears to be a 150m along the ground type thing, which is interesting.

I went to Trent Park to have a fly. Never been there before, it's a lovely area.

I did get a little cocky though and hit a tree... All seems to be fine though :)

I'll edit some video together later.

You're lucky that hitting the tree didn't cause too much damage.

Nice video though

Got my replacement battery this morning, fully charged it and have updated it. Hoping to get out today but it's a bit grey and dull down here in London. Hopefully if it doesn't rain then I can get out for a bit.

A few friends and I had a bash at making our own gates and having a race for the first time. Harder than it looks

More sneaky practice day 2 before work and its been raining since

Still a long way to go

'Hated' it? That's a bit of a strong word

Nope it's correct. I hated it

That's what I thought. I can understand 'just didn't have fun', but why would you actually hate it?

Does anyone attach a Trakr or some other location device, in case you lose it somewhere?

There was nothing I enjoyed, like, had fun and so much more. I'm glad I've given it up and after selling the company.

Yes all my UAV's have/had trackers Tbecon
