My GeIL 2GB PC2-6400 CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (MY-058-GL) Overclocking Experience.......

Hi All

Just read all three pages of this thread and really wish I had done so before buying the following bundle from OCUK;
Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 2.40GHz Retail / Asus P5B Deluxe / 2GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle (BU-043-OK)!!

Has anyone been able to get there’s working on the ASUS board. I can only get Post and Windows with everything on auto apart from the CPU Frequency set to 300.

I tried setting the CAS and DRAM settings to manual 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 and it won’t post at all.

If anyone has got these working with the P5B can they please help me out and tell me what else I have to set and where?

Apologies but I’m still a bit wet behind the ears!

I also have a thread going here that will explain a bit more, although I have been learning very quickly as I've read through these forums over the last couple of days!
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17650577

Really want to get this board running properly.
Also have an EVERST report of the rig here!!!!

Thanks

Xray

PS. Everest shows the following 533 MHz and CPU-z shows the following:

I've got these working, but I've hit a wall at 430 FSB

What bios you running?

I gotta say I don't understand dividers yet in this intel rig I've built! A64 was fine, this I don't get!1 And all this strap businees I don't get that either, those bleeding edge links don't work for me either :(

The Geil memory is a con i think, because on asus boards when you get to above 360 fsb it requires SPD timings so the timings will be shown as 5.6.6.20 once the fsb gets to 400mhz.

and theirs no way to set the memory to it correct timings, as geil have only programed the memory upto 667 @ 5.5.5.20

what we need is the memory reprogrammed to say 4.4.4.12 @ fsb 400

Hi there

If you thinking of buying memory this has to be it, why buy OCZ, Corsair PC8000/PC8500 at £300 when you can have this superior memory for a little over £100. :)

its now around the £200, whats the deal with that? how much was it before and jesus why all the way to near £200, fair enough you up the prices if supply is big, but christ, talk about taking away the best part of the ram, great performance for a great price.

Getting back to what I said!!

I still dont think that OC should sell the Asus P5B Deluxe / 2GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle (BU-043-OK) if there is problems with the combo!!

I still have'nt got mine to do the 800 and 4-4-4-12 as stated ON THE PRODUCT  let alone overclock the dam things!!

last time i checked mate(1 or 2 weeks ago literally) the bundles didnt actually save any money, so its hardly a hardship to select 3 individual components instead of the bundle, but yea, if theres a compatibility problem its a big deal for people that dont know. OcUK how about bringing back some bundle discounts? encourage some customer loyalty, iv found everything cheaper or same price elsewhere except for the ram for my next build, its been pretty dissappointing, often the weekly offers are brilliant value, but a lot of the other pricing leaves a lot to be desired :(

xrayhead, are you using 2.1v?
My 2x1Gb Geil can clock fine on my Asus P5W. I can run it at +890Mhz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v

Try for stock speeds with one stick at a time, maybe you've got a faulty one?

I did try 2.1v with 4-4-4-12, but not with both stick's..... I will give it a go one at a time!

Dont suppose you wish to share with me you settings in the following (Please) ?

1. Jummper free config
2. Advanced CPU Settings
3. Northbridge Chipset

Hope Mr Gibbo is right, some on the way :)

[ui]ICEMAN, any chance we can hook up on MSN or something, I have this board/mem coming and might need some help with the settings etc as I haven't clocked anything other than AMD's ;)

What would be the better of the two at present, ignoring price - the OCZ PC6400 or this Geil PC6400 stuff? What should I use?
*edit - I'm reading here that the OCZ is rated at 4-4-4-15 whereas the Geil recommended spec is 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v. Does this sway things towards the Geil?

random what fsb are you running on the cpu?

right ive read thru all of the posts and am aware of a few issues, heres my setup:
Foxconn 965 8ksh (it was free)
Geil 2x512 kit PC6400 etc
Intel 805 D
XT1900 GT
Hiper Type R 480w (works fine)

so far i cant seem to get my fsb above 155 resulting in 3.1ish Ghz (when i try 160 or more the bios resets back down to 133Mhz giving 533Mhz) , this is with no voltage increase and the timings set @ 4,4,4,12 however there is a second setting where it can be set as SPD or 533Mhz ive just left mine @ SPD

its been quite a while since ive been round memory timings so forgive me if im a little rusty

ill try and take some pics of the bios tonight and also try increasing voltage to 2.1 to see if that makes any diff

the motherboard also has a smooth overclock setting which is what i think is reseting the bios if its set too high?

is there anyone else out there that has this combo or can advise me further
cheers :)
