The 2405FPW ships with the vga cable plugged in
 Surely the cable comes restrained..

*Images of a cable flalling all over the place in the box, damaging screen*

Oh right..

One question for the people who own this Dell.. "Would running at 1280 x 800 provide significantly less quality, than running at the 1900x1200 settings"

I ask because I dont particularly want to get this, and then 6 months down the line have to get SLi just to keep playing at the max resolution :(

I try to play games that require too much horsepower, such as F.E.A.R., at 1280x720. The monitor scales this up very well indeed to 1920x1200. 1280x800 would look absolutely fine.

Oh right.. reading a little earlier on in the thread and someone mentioned 1280 x 800 and I thought this was a scaled down 1900 x 1200??

If you play at 1280 x 720 and it works fine, then it would be sweet to get this and the new 7800GTX 512MB :D

hmmmmm ponder ponder

1280x800 is a better scale-down ratio but it is not a common option in widescreen games. I think more have 1280x720. If you can set the resolution yourself in INI files and such then 1280x800 is preferred.

Oh right I see.

Cheers for the heads-up mate, much appreciated!!

I've narrowed it down to the VP930, this dell and the Xerox :(

Looking like the Dell because of the lovely widescreen-ness of it all, but I do hate that logo ! lol

Hi there, in the future.. I would love to get one of these, but the gaming aspect of it, where people can see blurring, im a little mortified.

I can see flickering with any monitor (CRT) at 75Hz, therefore I'm wondering if i'll be able to see the blurring.
If anyone on here can see flickering with any CRT @ 75Hz, can u tell me if you notice the blurring on the 2405?

Does anyone know why the contrast should be greyed out on a DVI connection? I had a quick go on the Xbox 360 today - the Samsung 23" panel they used for that in the shop has a really nice black screen. When I came back to my PC I notice the blacks aren't as black on the Dell. Wondering if contrast set at 50 would contribute to this?

you cant use the contrast via the OSD from DVI connection. The VGA connection would al.low you since the OSD and monitor electronics can control the VGA interface a little more. In DVI if you want to change contrast then you need to do it from your graphics card settings.

Viewsonic VP930 allows adjustment of contrast and brightness from on-screen controls through the DVI connection, either from the buttons on the monitor itself or from the Viewpoint software. I remembered reading this somewhere, and just checked to confirm.

I remember the reviewer was surprised to find this as well.

I'm assuming you mean only on this particular monitor? as mine lets u do both contrast and brightness in OSD on both DVI and Analogue

Usually the best test, it to display a true black picture, and have low level lighting in your room.

If you have problems you will see that the edges of the screen are lighter, usually looking grey but then, most monitors do have some kind of leakage.. it's only when you have severe leaking (lots of uneven leakage) that you need to worry mate :)

yeah, i only meant on this monitor. I'm aware that some let you use the controls on both VGA and DVI, but quite a few have limited OSD functionality with DVI connections
