My new Samsung 26" LCD

It's supports 720p so I think it not being 16:9 is the end of the world.

Whats 720p got to do with the aspect ratio ?

25ms is fine for TV and most console games.

No its not its dire for TV and games, at 8ms smearing + ghosting is still present to some people.

I was offerin it as a good cheap alternative to the Sammy at over £200 less or way more if you are paying the £700 retailers want.

Its £200 less as its an inferior product, fine for static computer images but no good as a tv or games display. The Dell screens are also well known for being terrible on component unless its 720p and above.

It's without doubt an inferior product, but it's immediately available for £363 - a Samsung LE26R41BD could cost you £750 at the moment. While it's far from a perfect screen, I've seen someone with the Dell and it's certainly not "dire" - whether a 25ms response time matters to you is very much a matter of opinion.

PAH!

Whats the point huh, I mean what do you expect for £363??? A freaking miracle?

I never mentioned it was perfect, seems to me many people are after a resonable quality product for low cost, this fits the bill. I mean how many people are gonna use this thing as a main TV anyhow it's blooming tiny.

I'd be happy if the Dell lasted me 18 months then I'd replace it with one of the newer and hopefully better generations of LCD panels. LCD is still a very young product especially in the TV market so prices are going to continue to fall and quality will continue to increase, and at the rate new types and sizes of panels are coming I would not be suprised to see something at least twice as good as the Sammy for half the price in less than twelve months, just in time for Sky starting to offer cut price HDTV to customers due to slow take up.

At the end of the day, I mentioned the TV to help those out who want something now, not in 3 months when Sammy's are back in stock everywhere and then out of date.

Good post. I had ordered one for a bedroom in the house. I also have 4 other LCDs in the house and a projector. It all depends on what and how you are using it. I have low expectations but £337 for a bedroom TV (as my company has a employee purchase program with the company that shall not be named) it is great.

Hi,

After reading through this thread and going completely mad on choosing a TV I think im gonna go for the 'LE32M51B' instead of the 'R' range as ive read/heard these are newer to the samsung LCD TV range.

I have some questions.... I found out today that in my area I cant currently receive a freeview signal, this has swayed me towards the LE32M51B. However this model does not come with a in-built Freeview box so im thinking about gettting an external freeview box later on. How would I go about setting/connecting this up? would it be through RGB?

Bobbyboy - I see the RGB connection, is this for your skybox...whats the quality like and is it watchable at a distance? (about 2 meters for me)

Cheers

A friend of mine has a 32" one of these sammys, hes not impressed with it at all, he says dvds are ok, but freeview looks blocky and awful?
His must be duff then as ours looks superb here :D Seriously, I'm still amazed at the picture quality on this, I can't really faut it at all TBH. And it's not like the TV downstairs I usually watch is a rotten piece of junk being a 32" Sony unit. The Freeview quality could just be down to compression but I've not really noticed any from the programmes we've been watching.

Hello, yes i did connect the skybox to the rgb socket,. although i use component now as the pic is better through it.

Although im about to look for a HDMI dvd player or recorder, heard good things about a new sony hdmi player only and a samsung hdmi recorder, apparently these upscale. Will keep you posted.

This model doesnt have freeview built in, the pic is very good, just takes some getting used to, the football on sky yesterday was great, very nice picture.

I've ordered a LE32M51BX, it has an integrated digital tuner. Got it for ~£930 inc delivery from somewhere home cinema related that does tv's in the uk (I'll edit, but they can't really be a competitor, OCUK's range of TV's & plasmas are tiny, and more computer orientated). They are out of stock at the moment though, but it has been reduced in price to £856 + delivery.

I just purchased a Samsung HD950 upscaling dvd player from a specialist high street chain beginning with a R, it's very nice (even on my current Medion LCD TV, over DVI), got it for £130, and it consistantly gets good reviews, plus there's a simple handset hack to make it multi-region. The sony gets good reviews, and it's slightly newer, but it's almost impossible to get hold off, especially in multi-region, more expensive (£200 ish), and doesn't come with HDMI & HDMI-DVI cables (which can cost up to £30-40 each)!

Now all I need to look for is a good sound system that has multiple HDMI inputs (including an output obviously), and some good speakers, to replace my all-in one dvd system, but that won't happen until february.

They are a competitor. OCUK do LCD TVs & Plasmas.

Mines here :D 32" Version that is :)

Just gonna go and unpack it now - might even do pictures :)

Lucky git!

Mines was sent to a wrong address......WTF?....50 miles in the wrong direction!!

Anyway, mine will be here Wednesday now....Aslong as its before Friday when my 360 arrives!

Wasn't City-Links fault either.....Was that W retailer

Can anyone with a 32" (ooo err missus) please provide feedback on it's use as a PC monitor? I would love to be able to use it as a PC monitor as well, but I think i'm kidding myself. But I do have a wireless keyboard, so could be ok ;)

Also out of all the Sammy owners, who has any dead pixels?

was going to quote the post you quoted but couldnt find it

the blockyness with freeview is inevitable with poor picture. Look at the picture on the TVs in comet etc.. and you'll see the blockyness on every TV there. Get it hooked up to its own proper aerial and the picture improves dramatically vs a distribution system to 100 + tvs.

Not tested as a PC Monitor yet but I haven't got a single dead pixel :)
