My new Samsung 26" LCD

Valleyman: I currently have a DVI-D cable, but was getting worried that I would have to buy a HDMI-DVI cable to connect to my not-yet-bought LCD in order to maintain PQ. Have you got any links or any more info on how a convertor does not effect the PQ? Thanks :)

So the HD-850 does do DivX?
Ive been thinking of buying a HD-850 myself.
I'll await your final conclusion on it. :)

Do you mind testing it via componet please?
I'd use HDMI, but i'd be needing about 3m of cabling, and that'd cost me a fortune.

I'll pull out the component cables and give it a go later. The bundled HDMI cable (good thick cabling!) is around 2m long which was twice what I was expecting. I've ordered a 4m cable from the auction site which cost around £15, so I'm pretty much presuming the quality won't be great, but I'll see when it arrives.
So far I've tried:
Revenge of the Sith
LOTR:FOTR
BS:G miniseries
National Treasure
Batman Begins
Ice Age
Madagascar

And I was about to say it probably isn't worth the outlay over an existing DVD player.... but then I did a back and forth between my non upscaling Panasonic DVD setup and the HD850. There is a definate difference as I mentioned in my first report back, but I think it may not be enough of a difference for some people to justify. As far as I can tell settings on both pieces of equipment are correct, so i doubt its that. Although I will be checking on the HD850 thread on AVforums when they come back online. Needless to say the animated films look exceptional - virtually 3D like, but on the live action films the upscaling is less obvious.
Still, if you're in the market for a HDMI/divx DVD player, its definately worth a look.
I'll reply once I've done some more playing around!

It's somewhere for £750...

The retail price in shop is £800. On their website £750.

I paid full wack and got it for £800. Pick up tomorrow. Woop!

That is the LE26M51B and not the LE26R41B/LE26R51B, right? :)
If i Can't find the LE26M51B at £750 I'll settle for the LE26R41BD for £611 :(

I think he was talking about the LE26M51B, not the LE26R51B
Big difference!

The M models are very rare atm, and the 26" does appear to be available from only 2 online places atm, for £799 minimum.

You got me all excited thinking I could pick up an M 26" in store for £800!! :p

Whats the "Big Difference" between the M and R models ?

Yep I was just looking there lol

So basicaly its the same screen only its bottom has had a cosmetic adjustment ?

No!! I think everyone is getting muddled up again. The R41 and R51 are identical apart from a slight cosmetic change to the besel.

The M51 is different cosmetically, but has an entirely different screen, supposedly with a 3000:1 contrast ratio and 8ms response (as opposed to the 800:1 and 12ms of the R41/R51 models)
Whether or not the 8ms is a true figure (or whether it's still 12ms but measured differently) is a different matter, but the M51 models are the newer versions of the R41/R51.

The M models are very rare and I haven't seen any for sale in any shops. The 26" version is a minimum of £799 online, where as the 26" R41 model is around £625. Big difference! :D

Hey again.

I just want to ask some people here for a bit of help with this lcd.

When switching between my xbox and pc, i hit the source button, and I have to pass through the EXT 1 and EXT 2 before I reach component.

Anyone know a better way, or am I stuck with this annoyance?

Perfect. The only thing that sucks is the red text on these forums.

What connection do you use? A VGA cable?

Thing is, the Belkin one I got says on the back, "best used for monitors under 17 inches"

So this could be a problem I guess?

Where you get your connection cable from??

My cable is a bog standard vga from a crt back in 1995 and everything is crisp and clear (with no shadows). I also get the red text thing on this site, but it's something i'm happy to live with!

Yeah well I hate the fact you cant easily switch between PC and Component. I mean when component is disconnected, it doesnt show all the time, I wish the same would happen for EXT1 and EXT2 (scart for people not in the know) where if nothing was plugged in, they would show when flicking through.

Alas I shall have to live with it, gonna crack open this xbox media center universal remote and see if it works with the samsung.

A few things I would like to help people with after my brief experience with a R41BDX was cruelly cut short after I was burgled, had the tv about a week or so

1stly a bit unfair comparison someone had Episode 3 against Battlestar Gallactica - even if you were comparing the recent mini series as apposed to the series from 20 years ago, there will still be a lot more detail in full budget film like Star Wars, so the affects of upsclaing would be more obvious - I would think anyway - sayign that Ep 3 IS a fabulous way of seeing how effective upscaling is, asI personally think it looked fabulous with the 850 & BDX

2ndly, I have what looks like a standard vga cable but it was bundled with a Dell 1905FP which i bought about 6 months ago which I used on the vga port of my BDX and there was NO blurring at all, on red text or anything. As stated above this could be that even though it looked standard Dell actually produce better quality vga cables ( this may be true or not i have no idea), or I just got a decent BDX with a recent firmware (unlikely as very few sets were aroudn when i purchaed, so newer batches must be being delivered by now i would guess) , thirdly there are a load of bad sets out there in particular to the vga port - again I dont think this is true lastly I just didnt notice the blurry red text - i dont think so as I did browse these forums quite a bit on it as this was already an issue and I saw nothign of this nature.

I would also say that my cable was standard length - maybe people are using long lengths of cable and beign affected by this???

Good luck with your sets guys - as soon as my insurance gets sorted I amy get another BDX or may even go for a Dell 32" LCD TV thru OCUK

Would hate the ghosting on this to be apparent when im playing my pc games, cba looking through this whole thread to find out what everyone has said about ghosting with this.

Darn.. you would find some really good posts :)

I don't notice any ghosting when play games like doom 3 and quake 4. Other users might.
I have the 32" version btw
