My new Samsung 26" LCD

I had a thread in general hardware regarding an option of either a hdTV or a 2405, I think all of you have just made my decision a lot easier (might treat myself to a 7800GT though as I think the X800 I currently have will be a little weedy on new games)

Also puts my mind at rest as I am gettign a proper dvd recorder also, and this way I can connect this up as well as my pc v easily.

(£640 delivered also - grins)

Thank you guys

edit--can someone confirm whether the 26" version has freeview also - as Samsung's UK site only states the 32" version is IDTV ( as well as HD)? Its a minor point but would like to know , thanks

26" version has Freeview mate, just make sure you get the LE26R51BD model.
Not all of the 26"s have the Freeview Tuner built in.
AFAIK, the way to tell is the ending. If its got a 'D' in it, its got a Digital Freeview Tuner.

Sorry this has confused me now, as the 51 model number ( with the D) is completely unavailable from one site and Samsung site says it is a IDTV, the 41 model number ( STILL has a D on the end, weill BDX) Samsung says dioesnt, one site says does and another doesnt say either way - argghhhh

ie Samsung LE27T51BX - everyone seems to agree this is an IDTV but seems to be hard to get hold of ( advertised at £550 i hasten to add which maybe why)

LE26R41BDX -- seems to be widely available ( for £640 +) but no sites can agree whether its an IDTV ( ie incl Freeview) or not.

I am not being completely stupid am i?

sorry edited again, I looked again at the 51BX and its NOT an IDTV, I thougth it was after seeing the post above, cant see any mention of the 51BD

"Samsung LE26R41BDX 26" Greenwich II LCD TV HD READY with Built in Digital FREEVIEW"

Taken from a competitor. That has it. LE26R41BDX has Freeview. I can't see any that says it doesnt (or doesn't say it does!).

Thanks mate, thats really helped, now hope the company i have seen really have stock for £640, and also looking for hdmi / dvi switchbox

really appreciate your help

Yes, yes it is. :) Shame about the demo though..still, shows off the screen well.

smokedog, you as pleased as me with the gaming results from this LCD? Haven't noticed any ghosting at all and the colours look superb.

Yes and no. Games with widescreen support i.e. HL, CS etc are great but games like Quake 4 looks pants. Haven't noticed any ghosting but there is tearing when watching movie using certain players. TheaterTek seems to give the best quality. Was going to use this as my main monitor but don't think thats a good idea. I watch a lot of movies on my screen and the results are very good.

Have you noticed blurring on red objects especially text?

Here's some more pics of HL2 Lost Coast, with everything set to maximum

hmmm that looks a little worrying about the red text coming out so badly? What are red items like in films, or what about red danger signs or something?

Got my insurance cheque today so, paying it in 1st thing Monday so hope to have my tv next weekend

Only seems to be red text on blue background that problem. Just done some google image searches to try and replicate it but without luck.

Contrast thing maybe?

Edit: In fact, these forums (red text on blue) is the only place it seems to happend. Movies, games, images etc seem fine.

This is where I come a croper hahahahaa

Earlier I looked on the web and I was getting results of around £600 for the 26"................................ and £850 for the 32" ---- but which do I choose, I had initial thoughts that the 32" would be too big for the room I am going to use it in ( I cant get any further back than around 6ft from the set ( and I still have to put surround speakers in as well)

I am really tempted by the 32" but think it may be a little too much ( I cant believe I am even saying/thinking/typing that lolol) and when i move house - in the next 6 months i hope - this will only be the 2nd tv as I will want at least a 42" when i move to compare with my 42" 5 year old rear projection set which is currently on its last legs)

Went out this morning to the highstreet, just to see equivelant prices in Southampton, shouldnt have bothered lol thought that someone would not price match but at least try and compete - but NO ONE would even move from the £300 or more difference on either set, they deny all knowledge of the web price difference and as soon as i mentioned the web most sales people just walked off knowing they had already lost a sale lol

Saw a few sets, but I was really drawn to the Samsung, the silver bezel isnt anywhere near as prominant as you would think, you are always looking higher and it just didnt bother me at all. Really cant wait - I REALLY hope to get mine by next weekend
