My new Samsung 26" LCD

Goes from bad to worse, it looks like the timing section on my dvd recorder is completely knackered, I can record ok if I just press record there and then, however as soon as I try using either the epg or manually set the timer it just sits there waiting in standby timer mode.

What's the deal with dead pixels with these?

I'd hate to spend £600 on a 26" LCD, and spend the whole time noticing a slightly large busted pixel :(
Are there any places that take them back no questions asked just in case the above happened?

I have one dead pixel on my screen but you don't notice it. Had to look very hard to even spot it.

But my samsung is being taken away for repairs. The speakers are playing up :(

My Sammy 26" BDX arrived tonight at 9.30pm!!!

Had a little trouble setting up the seperate digital tuner, but thats all sorted now. TV pics dont look great, but my new Sin City DVD looks fantastic - currently using it through the pc, but going to setup my real 5.1 system and dvd recorder tomorrow.

Will post pics tomorrow as promised

Its quite dramatic the difference between a 1905FP which is / was my main pc display

FrankJH, have you got those piccies?

For all other owners:
I went into a shop on the high street today to check one of these out. They had the 26" and 32" version. The 26" was a nice size, slightly smaller than I imagined, so I can easily fit it on my desk :)

The muppets in the shop had the resolution set at 1024x768 (surprise surprise, I think you can guess where I was). So I set it to the closest thing I could to native (1360x768 I think).

Overall it looked ok, but there was this weird effect that some of the text distorted slightly (slightly blurred) every few inches across the screen. It seemed to be a regular pattern of some sort. Is this because the resolution wasn't exactly 1366x768? There was no driver installed for the monitor, could this have been a problem?

Is everyone else's screen 100% pin sharp at 1360x768? I assume that's the resolution that everyone uses.

Raider, mine's perfect. Running at the correct resolution of course!..probably helps.

That's just using the ATi Cats too, very straight forward. One thing i'm yet to find, but coping just fine without, are drivers for the Sammy screen.

Do you mean 1366x768?

Can you try running it at 1360x768 and see if you get the same weird effect?

Tell me about it! I was in a well known high street electronic retailers in the Potteries Centre on Tuesday, looking at these Sammy 26" and 32" TV's.

As if by magic the shopkeeper appeared (well, some spotty teenager anyway) and proceeded to explain that these Samsung HDTV's don't have a HDMI connection when quite clearly I could see it with my own eyes. When this was pointed out, he stated that "oh that, I don't know what that's for!"

Needless to say, I walked away quicksmart. However, I may still go back and purchase the 26" in the near future.

Just a quick question though. At the moment I'm using a 28" WS TV for my main TV, do you reckon I'll notice the lack of 2"'s if I go for the 26" Samsung? I normally sit about 6' from the TV!

Bear in mind that CRTs are always smaller (visible wise) than their name suggests. A 28" TV is probably closer to 26.5-27"
Our 32" TV is around 30" in reality.

So I doubt you'll notice any difference size wise :)

Cheers, I thought as much seen as most of these new LCD screens are true to the size as stated. I guess I'll have to start saving the extra few quid for a nice set of Kef 5.1 speakers now too. :D

Is it possible to be told where to look for these Samsung screens at such good prices?

A friend of mine is interested and was considering paying 1100 - 1200 for one

(Also I might just be tempted :p)
