Nandos - Who has been?

didn't know double pitta's were roughly twice the price of a single

i would expect a few quid on top but not double, this may be where you are going wrong, have dessert instead and you should be able to knock a few quid off that, also beer at lunch?

I'm not a desert fan to be honest (not any more )

I need the beer to get me through the afternoon :p. I'm not an alcoholic...honest...

well i doubt you can complain at the price of it all when you break down what you have ordered and it is a restaurant after all.

beer
starter
double main

in a pub that would easily cost you £15 as well

Not had the chicken livers for a while, but they are quite tasty.

I last went to Nando's last week on me lunch break with the missus. I wasn't very hungry but they gave a decent sized portion (1/4 breast chicken + decent plate of chips + garlic bread).

I've had anorexic chicken portions from other branches so it's really hits and miss tbh.

I've given Nandos several chances, they've disappointed every time.

Cons
-Terrible atmosphere: Extremely noisy, shouting, kids screaming and running around. Like the lunch hall at primary school.
-Food always seems to be cold. (also like the lunch hall at primary school lol)

Honestly, I cannot think of a single advantage of Nandos over any similarly priced local independent restaurant. Much more 'exclusive' seating arrangements due to being smaller, infinitely more peaceful atmosphere in comparison, and proper sizzling hot food, topped off with a far more nicer 1-to-1 service.

If I want to eat chicken, I'll go to one of the many independent fried/grilled chicken shops in London and save a tenner in the process. If I want a proper meal, I'll go to a proper restaurant. Simply put, there's just no place for Nando's in my life tbh.

Not going to play the devil's advocate here, but it really is dependent on the "restaurant" in question. (inverted commas, as my Dad says that it's not a restaurant unless someone comes to take your order :p) For example, the Nando's in Cambridge (St. Andrew's Street) is a nice old building which has been done up inside, where it has quite a nice atmosphere and no screaming kids. Even in a city they can vary wildly - in the Milton Keynes shopping centre the Nando's is always rammed full and chock-a-bloc with kids, whereas if you walk 5-10 minutes over to the one next to Sainsbury's it is usually much quieter and much more modern inside!

Haven't been in a few years but I love Nando's. First found them in South Africa, although the format is a bit different there as they don't really do the restaurant-style thing, instead it's more of a takeaway place but with better food than the usual alternatives.

Can't remember what me and a friend had ordered, it was a few years ago, but it did amount to £70ish. So yeah it can be expensive but when you're hungry you just go for it. But it's been a while since i've been last, i might go on Wednesday.

Did you order three main meals each or something?

Anything can be expensive if you just go crazy and order loads of it, but a £70 bill for two people in Nandos is not remotely normal.

Not really. Ordered starters each, main course and then some more starters. Then added another main course to share, some more starters/side dishes. Maybe another main course to share...can't really remember exact details just remember the amount we paid as it was abnormal.

But good times.

I agree. A 'normal' meal at Nando's shouldn't cost you that much for a 3 course unless you order like Freefaller :p

Edit: Just saw your post above - abnormal amount of food = abnormal bill :D

It isn't bad. I'd certainly say it's Fast Food, if not priced as such. I'd probably choose other restaurants over it though for the price, however it isn't bad. I've tried it a couple of times, and even as someone who loves Chicken I think it's mediocre.

Some people seem to worship the place, which I don't quite understand...

Only heard of it also within the last year or so.

for real? you live in Reading? Its hardly in the middle of nowhere and you have only just heard of Nandos? :p

Back in my meat eating days I use to go occasionally, for me the food isnt that great, the atmosphere is midly average at best and its a bit pricey for what you get. it is way overhyped and given they do all the sauces in your local SM your be better off making a meal at home. My only great memory of Nandos was 2nd year uni when me and my mate went in their plastered and the food tasted 100% better than it normally does lol

Cant go nowadays though simply because they dont do veggie! :D

I think the food is quite tasty but i always find myself coming away disappointed, and usually still slightly peckish.

Its not the cheapest place to eat, and better value, equivalently tasty food can be had elsewhere.

Like someone else said, when all's said and done its just chicken and chips.

Nando's here in the UK has always been crap for me. I was born in South Africa, which is where Nando's is from, and the experience was always far better. First time I had a meal here, it was chicken, with chips, on a plate and that was it. Given that they're trying for the restaurant experience here, I'd expect some garnish and something else for the price I paid. Second time, they brought us our food 40 mins after we ordered (I'd already complained once, they then started making it as they'd forgotten) and then when we got it, the food was still cold. Managed to get a free meal voucher for me and my wife, but when we went back for that meal a few weeks late the experience was very similar to the first two. Haven't been back since and that was about two years ago now. Don't think I'll bother either.
