Just had my new NEC TFT. set it up, installed the drivers and changed the resolution. Anything else I need to do to it in the options ?

Nice screen btw :D
sRGB/Native colour depending on your preference and stick it on 70 brightness, 50 contrast, DVM on and standard DV mode.

That's all for a very simple nice look, you can tweak the monitor so much more.

@ Igors & baddass

anyone else who is a fussy bast**d like me and who had their fare share of difficulties with nec and any monitor PLEASE READ This.

1st of all i like to thank igors & baddass for the time and feedback (i still think hes on the NEC payroll)

Let me start fo with the monitor BOX :)

ok guys i got my fare share of tft's including the last one which was a philips, this monitor is well packed i mean well packed its how tft should be packed so well done nec for that.

i took it out and all i thought wow and oohh no:

wow:
hell of a build, i mean its solid like superman's chest, non of the creaking and bend plastic u get in the others.

oohh no:
i had my share of tfts and crts and so i know the reflecation would kill me as soon as i took it out this thing was so reflecative you could use it as a mirror with black tint to it, anyway still gorgeous and all this when it was still turned off. :)

there was a buzzing noise at the back of it and usually happens on standby which was annoying and worrying but this eventully goes away but not completely, you have to put your ear next to it to find it eventully.

other problem is weird screen effect i posted earlier, this was my graphic card it was ati HIS x1900xt so anyone has any similar issues please post em.
once thats out of the way by replacing the GPU, everything is normal again but it was very worrying. :(

last and not least there was some really bad bleeding, now is gone may be its fact the my brightness is about 40% have something to do with it, Igors get back to me on this. anyway

I turn the thing on and all i said is wow and oohh no again:

WoW:

this thing is bright i mean bright like nuclear explosion so thats easily fixed via the brightness.

got into desktop mode and i thought hello this is different and i have to say everything look stunning and sharp after you set it up proberly, i started browsing and ohh my god the thing really is stunner everything is so vibrant and better with this tft.

Gaming:

this is a super WOW for me, i loaded hl2 ep 1 and ooohh man this monitor is the best i have ever seen in terms of gaming its quick and everything is so sharp and vibrant. this puts other tft to shame a lot.

the oohh no:
the reflection doesnt bother me at the slightest because you dont notice it, the monitor is that good that u forget this thing is reflective unless u search for it which realy is dumb thing to do as tv's have always been reflective.

but make sure there no direct light on it, it helps a great deal.

when the the guys who run these benchies on this display always mention the reflection but they seem to forget the thing is turned off and put off people like me from getting this beauty. at least is it still reflective the same way when its turned on. COME ON GUYS

they always mention its the tft downfall but is the other way round the opticlear gives it that edge over the other displays.

People please go and see it in shops if you can before you buy it and see for your self or listen to the satisfied members about this tft and get one, its worth it.

Other thing about the adjustable stand, i was worried about that as well, no need you could adjust the display up and down but not the stand which you dont really need unless you got a neck like E.T or adjust your damn chair if you can.

Simple Word or sentence to descibe this thing:

SIMPLY AMAZING

Other Pros:
- great navigation menu and simple
- all cables
- plenty of features
- 3 yrs warrenty (swap i think)

can someone tell is there an issue withese screens and ati card in terms of seeing the bios.

in particular the ATI X1900xt series

thanks

Using a Connect 3D 1900XT and no problems in BIOS, boot screens, etc. Using both VGA & DVI.

Also no highh pitched noises either and no dead pixels (although i thought there was one but it turned out to be a bit dust on the outside :D)

And as ATI says, it's a stunning monitor!

hello people

quick question

can u guy feel a bit a warmth or heat emmiting from the display?

when setting down or when u bring ** hand near it with out touching it that is?

Yes, and the top of the monitor get's quite warm as well, normal I think.

ya the top i know about but the panel is bit hot

u think is because of how opticlear works

this thing could keep face warm in winter

Looking good ATI, looking good :) I didn't have any doubts that you will be pleased with the monitor and I'm glad that you like it very much. It's amazing piece of hardware, without a single shadow of doubt. Even now ... after approx 7 months of usage, each time when I power on the NEC, it still brings the smile to my face ;)

No probs :)

Thank you for the quick report about the monitor. Many interesting points you have there ;)

Yes, ATI owners reported this and it seems that it's related only with the particular models of ATI cards  I don't have the faintest idea why is that. Anyhow, you may resolve this problem by attaching both DVI/VGA cables, as Ozzie Dave already mentioned in his post.

NEC tends to generate maybe more than average heat (compared to other LCD monitors around). This is probably related to the fact that monitor is already drawing more power and DC power converter is integrated in the monitor itself. It's probably more pronounced if your room tends to be on the warm side.

It's nothing to worry about, as long as the heat is properly extracted from the monitor. In other words, monitor cooling points are not obstructed somehow and monitor does have plenty of ambient air around.

hi igors

thanks for the input, i think these cards are the x800 series, can anyone confirm?

and also confirm if the x1900xt has the same issue?

Hey all

Just to let you know
Regarding gradients at 9200k, Ive switched to a decent VGA cable ;) and now I can see my images without the colour banding and keep to the 9200k whites My artwork now has smooth gradients again. :)
My Digital TV hauppage box is now producing much better results in windows, with less noticable gradient related mpeg artifacting. Tis like a mini high def TV.

It seems this DVI colour banding issue is not too dissimilar from that of the Dell 2007fpw 2407fpw ??? which mess things up with preset modes like gaming or photo, when all we want is the standard setting.. These modes may boost contrast ratio's here and there or speed up g2g response time, but at the cost of loosing some of the spectrum on the DVI ? no way, because colour is where the S-IPS panels do very well. So here are my current settings.

D-Sub connection

User Preset 1 9200k whites
Red 80%
Green 80%
Blue 100%

Brightness 100%
Contrast 50%
Sharpness 8.3

Adv DV Mode OFF
(or switch it ON to get better blacks at the cost of dimming the image)

remember colour banding on the DVI is ONLY apparant at non native colour temperatures and is very slight, but to me noticable.
/me dissapears to play some HL2DM the way it was meant to look. :)

is this a bit of dust behind the film ? Some people might think these are dead pixels, but they're not.
ie when you move your head left to right you can see that the blob is behind and moves slower than the film , which is closer. ? kinda looks 3D.

I had one of these, I could see it wasn't a dead or stuck pixel,I could see it was indeed more distant and slightly out of focus. so I flicked that part of the screen,(proberbly unadvisable!)and it dissapeared and now its gone. It must be dust on the backlight plate. I bet a lot of people think these are dead pixels, just make sure its not the film with the dead pixel.

I had the same thing happen to my laptop panel on the D810 , also 1680 x1050, but after more use, it dissapeared.

There must be a safer way to sort out those dots/blobs though.

My NEC doesn't have any dead pixels and is producing wonderfull results in all fields right now. :)
