Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

aye the only real life vs shift video ive seen so far is this one.

its a bit out of sync though and gets more so as the video progresses

Shame about the sync and not watched it all yet but the one thing that's obvious here and the same on all games is that the game looks too clean, too perfect. The real track has scrapes, not all the grass is perfectly green. It just need roughening up a bit. hehe

the actual track seems fairly accurate most the trees are completely wrong but you could probably learn the ring on shift and then go over and do the real thing and feel as though you know the circuit

Quite possibly, just wish the game track looked a little worn instead of brand new! Do you know what I mean?

yea its the same on most circuits the tarmac looks like it was laid just yesterday and the oil is still seeping out ?

the tracks are suposed to 'degrade' though
Burn rubber and really leave your mark on these tracks as they actually degrade and show the race-scarred look of being at the mercy of the Driver’s Battle.
tempted to do a 99lap quick race on the oval and see if it really does look any different on the last lap

Thanks for all your comments people, appreciate it. GTR Evo is a little bit old now tbh, but I have converted a lot of content for my own personal use and love the game. Currently I am waiting to see how rFactor 2 pans out, and if it's better I will migrate the content to that, but tbh what I have seen of it so far leaves me unimpressed sadly.

go on do it!! get screenshots!! LOL

One thing about comparison videos is they rarely use the same / similar FOV in-game that the onboard camera footage has.

Downside to this is that it makes any elevation changes look flatter, which seems to be the source of a lot of complaints in some youtube vids.

Other than the input lag fix / patch, the only other thing I'm waiting on for Shift 2 is a camera FOV tweak so the driving perspective looks less stretched out.

Fair play, everyone's different. What part leaves you feeling unimpressed though? Apart from the obvious like pits etc.

I am looking forward to rFactor 2 though too! :)

as you know rFactor uses the G-motor 2 engine which Simbin licensed for the race 07/gtr evo etc but they upgraded elements of the engine for their use and the visuals are way better, and features like wipers, rain etc.

I have no doubt rFactor 2 will deliver on the physics front and as mentioned the tyre physics look to be very good, but I'm not keen on unlicensed cars and from what I have seen it looks average visually, now I know that people are going to say that visuals do not make a game and I agree, but imo in this day and age we should be beyond average visuals in games and rf2 still looks like an older game. Also I think all the rFactor modders will convert their content to rFactor 2, and tbh there is an army of content on rF1 but very little of it is actually based on technical data and most of the mods are poor and not complete. Still I watch with interest though. If they come up with a ui that is as bad as rFactors then i'm out lol.

I am intrigued with shift 2 but tbh I did not like shift 1 gameplay wise, too arcadey even when you tone it down. shame there is no demo. I must say the sounds in the vids I have watched has been very good but visually the cars move way to quick and brake too easily speed/distance wise but the visuals are awesome. I need rf2 with shift visuals lol.

My apologies for rambling on about rf2 folks;). For all you shift 2 owners out there, here is a great place to get some nice mods for the game, you will have to join but it's free.

Guys is this steering wheel good enough for someone who is a amateur at shift 2 and other racing games (grid, f1 2010, race 07/race on, dirt 2)?

I'm not happy spending more because I dont play driving games a great deal.

I'm guessing any wheel would be better than the gamepad I'm currently using?

I posted my gamepad settings [here]

Try that first & see how you get on.

So i figured out what was causing my low GPU usage and consequently low FPS in this game....

It was Xfire (the chat/game program) Close it and the game runs fine, have it running and GPU usage is about 50%.

I am using a G27 and I am finding it difficult getting near NIKAZ,s lap times so a gamepad cant be that bad.
I guess its up to the user as to what controller they are happy with, I use a wheel as I can become more immersed in the game....plus I suck bad with a controller :p

Are you using Juls minimod ?

You'll probably find you will lap slightly quicker with it, as it makes the wheel tighter feeling / a bit more responsive.

Downside is it slows the AI down unfortunately.

This is a minor tweak to SakuraBlack's original mod found here at NoGrip, which removed the depth of field & a few other things :

I've additionaly tweaked the FOV of the cockpit & helmet cams to be slightly lower.

This is just a very quick edit, so no idea atm on the effect with other cars.

Plus the helmet cams' position will need tweaked as you can hardly see the hemet model atm ( cockpit cam used in screens )

Original value of 1.0 :

Value of 0.7 :

If anyone would prefer this, let me know and I'll upload the files somewhere.

Ah thanks for that, I'm now running the game maxed out with no issues.

Bought this game earlier and after some latter night racing I found it quite fun if not quite up to Forza standard. Reminded me a little of Grid.

Looking toward to playing some more tomorrow and making money so I can test out what cars work best online. :-)
