Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

Having problems with the patch, tried both retail and digital distributions, would anyone be able to upload their updated shift2u.exe?

Yes that career mod is fantastic. At the moment it only covers Classes C & D but I think between them, hours of gameplay exceed the vanilla career mode. You have qualifying before each race & the races are excess of 5 laps each. Furthermore, the 'Hard' level has been tweaked to make it really challenging. There are some other nice touches, such as using other cars for braking, or returning to a track if you have come off dangerously causing automatic disqualification.

Personally, I stopped playing the original career as soon as this was released & still have a fair bit to do but also looking forward to the faster classes.

With regards to Mods on the original, I had installed:

Skip Intro/Outro Movie
Remove Grey Collusion
Remove Floating Lights
Increase Levers & Quick Race Money

Also I used this Renown Tuning Guide as a starting point for setting up cars & helping in improving their handling.

There are currently 3 version of this game:

DVD Retail Boxed
Origin (EA Store)
Steam

If you have the DVD you can convert it to an Origin download by entering your serial key but tbh it is not necessary as you don't need a CD in the drive to boot.

Now depending what version you have is important for applying the 2nd patch & the DLC packs. If you have the DVD version or Origin version you then need to get the patch from Origin, choosing the right version. Steam will automatically update it's own version.

IMPORTANT to know that the latest patch & DLC had some extra content for Steam users, basically they got a version of the patch that was 'older' in the way that it had advanced graphical option that EA had asked SMS to remove as there was no time in testing. The problem now is that Steam users have a netcode not compatible with rest causing unusual happening online (such as cars spinning around on their roofs).

So if you want to play online, stay away from the Steam version of the game, it just has extra AA option. If you purchased it from Senit, I imagine it is a boxed, retail version, so NO it will not play on Steam.

Thanks Mags. So buying it from DVD and Origin is basically exactly the same? Reason I want Origin or Steam is because I just want to be able to download the game if I ever lose the DVD. So the best thing to do I am thinking is to buy the cheapest DVD possible and just activate through Origin?

Cheers, definitely going to give the career mod a try. Sounds like it adds a lot of playability, plus the idea of qualifying and longer races is appealing (nudging someones bumper light enough not to spill their coffee shouldn't cause for a restart!) Now I just need to decide whether to buy a wheel or not. Heard anything about a "Thrustmaster FERRARI F430 Force Feedback Racing Wheel"?

Yes do, it is much better than the original. With regards to 'nudging' them in the back, that is fine, you only get disqualified when you hit them at full pelt.

I use a G25, great wheel & so is the G27 which can be had for around £170.00 if you look in the right place. Above those in quality are the Fanatec wheels but the prices are also very high. If that is all too expensive then I would look at the Logitech DFGT (Driving Force GT) which can be picked up for under £100.

I had the dark cockpit bug, renaming the game exe to AFR-FriendlyD3D fixed it for me.

I got this free with my G27 so not too aggrieved but it is really lacking in the handling department so I hardly played it at all, looks very nice though.

Is that with crossfire ati cards mate?

I got my G27 today, so I'm going through all my racing games and giving them a go :)

I fixed it cheers! followed this post on there "I finally fixed the dark cockpit re-introduced in patch 1.02 by installing the AMD 12.1 Preview driver and creating an Application Profile, in the Catalyst Control Center, for Shift2 with the Crossfire Mode set to Optimized 1x1."

Works a charm, means I can now race dusk races as the bug was making the shadows on track way too dark.
